Cinderellabration?!? WHAT were they THINKING?

Am I ALONE in my disappointment?

I was anxious to see "Cinderellabration" at the Castle as this was (as I have been told ad nauseam) a "Major Event brought over from Tokyo Disneyland especially for the 50th Anniversary Celebration."

I've seen many of the "Castle Shows" over the years and have always thought they were "very cute" and had a little something for everybody... the characters, music, humor, villainy and FUN!!
But Cinderellabration is about as BLAND as any 3rd-rate non-Disney "kiddy" stage show (brightly-costumed NOTHINGNESS) I've ever seen.

Sure, all the princesses and their respective princes "showed up" (and I mean THAT is the EXTENT of what they did... they SHOWED UP!)

Don't get me wrong, I go nuts (in a GOOD way) over the "romance" section of Fantasmic! (with the 3 "floats" with Belle, Ariel, and Snow White) because it is a breathtakingly-beautiful jewel of a section of what is, in general, a tour-de-force show... Fantasmic! has LOTS of elements that, taken together, make for an incredible S-H-O-W!

But, even without any "hype" to set up false expectations "Cinderellabration" (as presented at WDW) would be a flaccid program without any high-points or low-points, no story and NO VILLAINS (whose "raison d'être" (reason-to-exist) is to set up the "negative energy" that our "heroes" can over-power and thereby LIFT the emotions (and raise the "spirits") of an audience and a show. That's why we LOVE dynamics in a SHOW!

I mentioned this lack-of-story to a CM who (on the quiet) said that he'd seen tapes of the "real" Tokyo Cinderellabration and he'd expected a LOT MORE of the show than (apparently) made it across the oceans to WDW!

Sorry, but I was SO not impressed with Cinderellabration. It has been OVER-PROMISED and UNDER-DELIVERED... something that Walt Disney himself always abhorred, and something that I never expected on THIS grand scale (they took out the BENCHES and cut down the TREES in the HUB, for better SIGHT-LINES!!!) at the 50th Celebration.

Heck, I'd settle for a return to the PREVIOUS castle show. At least some of the characters got to DO something!
The evil witch and other villains made their mischief, but not so much so that the Disney Heroes and heroines did not save the day (and save the SHOW) in the end!

:smooth:
so tell us how you really feel! :)

I for one did not care for the last show! And Cinderella is one of my favorite movies....(hence my DIS name :goodvibes )
I say bring back the Mickey Dancers!! The show they had like 7 years ago was great.....I don't understand whey they had to do all this princess stuff.

I soooooo agree. I saw this last week and was very disappointed. You are correct...the princesses "show up" and that is about it. I suppose it's good if you are not up a on your princesse but that is about all it is good for. Even the music is sib-par. Put me down a s extremely unhappy... :sad2:

I also agree.... my daughter loved the previous show so much so that we would have to see it several times each day. This one she saw once and then once another day and didn't care to see it again.

I've been to WDW over 30 times and never saw any of the shows. It's just fluff.

Thanks for making me feel better about missing it on our recent trip.
At 8, DD is all about the rides and could not be bothered with shows or parades. We caught a little bit of this show and then she urged me on- it did not capture her interest.

I haven't seen it yet.

How dare they leave out the villains?!?! I guess I won't make much of an effort to catch this one. I've haven't heard too many positive reviews...reminds me of another new attraction over at Tomorrowland. ;)

I wasn't too thrilled over Cinderbrellaration either, it was just okay, but nothing I would go out of my way for or make time to see again. We were in MK quite a bit last week and only saw the show once. My niece is six and didn't mention seeing it again after the first time and she LOVES anything to do with the Princesses. I was a little surprised she didn't ask to see the show again. I understand Disney's concept of bringing different things from different parks, in theory it's a good idea, but for all the hype, they could have left Cinderbrellation in Toyko. I did love seeing Lucky in AK though (very cool!) and doing Soarin' at Epcot. They are both great additions and I think it's too bad Lucky won't be a permanent addition to the World.

I like the shows with all the characters...or with all types of characters too and I agree, even though I love them, the Princesses are somewhat
"overdone' -- but let's face it, Princess paraphernalia is a huge seller for Disney so I'm sure we'll continue to see more. Hopefully though, the next castle show will try appeal to more than just the Princess set.

Youre kidding me right? you never saw ANY of the shows?? Not even lion King? or Hunchback? wow... youre missing out on great stuff!!

HOWEVER.. you are not missing out on ANYTHING with Cinderellabration.. its boring and bland and... well.. nothing really!!

I liked it and more importantly, my seven year old dd said "that was better than the last show, Mommy." It was far better than the new Stitch attraction, for sure! :)

Saw it in April. My dd(7)'s first comment was that she liked last year's show much better! While she thought the dancing this year was great, the villians in the old show added excitement. She said it had a "story" but the new one didn't seem to (in otherwords, she figured out that there isn't a true plot in Cinderellabration).
However, it's just running for a year, right?

Well, a "DISNEY YEAR" which is 18 months, as these things go.

I liked the old one but I like this one, too. I'm a sucker for any show with princessess in beautiful gowns. princess: :)

I agree- Nothing to get too excited about. My DD's did enjoy seeing the princesses all together.

I kept waiting for the villains, to come and try to mess things up a bit!!!

Also the stage kind of messes with front of the castle views

If you ask me you just can't sell a Disney show to anyone without some character's parent dying or a villian sequence. Yes, it is what it is supposed to be a pretty, fruffy show. But you have been brought up on Disney Good VS Evil. And without it, it will always be lacking something. I bet that is why this show was so popular to another culture. But we need conflict and heros.

I have seen pictures of, and read about, the original Cinderellabration, in Tokyo... and, believe me... The difference is not just about the 'Culture'. In Tokyo, Cinderellabration has been their huge nighttime spectacular... What we have here in NO way looks like could even be called the same show!!!!

I enjoyed the pageantry and the beauty... But, I have to say, Disney could have gone a LOT farther with this, and made it a real crowd-pleasing extravaganza. This would have meant limiting the shows per day. But I wish that had been how they opted to do it!

It is wonderful and beautiful! But, since it was supposed to be the big new attraction for the 5Oth... well, yes, in that light... disappointing.
