Our adult family of four just returned from our most recent trip. Aside of the unusual number of rides breaking down (mostly while we were on them), and Disney was kind enough to give us free park passes for a future trip, there was one event that reminds me what Walt and all since then have stood for.
First, our 24 yr old son decided to have pictures taken with princesses (his friends of the female persuasion asked for pics and he decided they would include him) so we spent some time watching him stand in lines with many little girls, but he's a good man and we didn't mind.
The last night we were at MK and he had a fastpass to the princess room at the Town hall, hoping to get Rupunzel and didn't want to wait the 90 minutes. When he found she wasn't there he gave up and decided to use the time with the family. In a moment of impulse, he picked out a female trio of grandmother, mother, and daughter dressed as Jasmine who were headed that way. Just in case there was a problem with the hand off, he wrote his cell number on the back of fastpass, and figured he had done his good deed for the day.
The next afternoon he received a text from one of the adult women who continued the story:
As they approached the hall, they noticed a little girl (age about 8-10) dressed as Cinderella and sitting on the bench crying with her parents and brothers around her. For reasons we will never know, the grandmother approached and asked why such a pretty princess was crying. The princess explained that she had been saving for the trip from her paper route to have a princess makeover, buy an autograph book and pen to get the princess signatures. But the lines were always too long for her family to spend all that time in line and they didn't want her to stand alone, so here on the last night the wait was too long and she had no autographs. So, you guessed, the grandmother gave her the fastpass to see who was still in there.
She then approached a CM working the Mickey/Minnie line and explained the problem and asked if there was anyway they could help this little girl. The CM asked her to identify the family and then asked the female trio to also wait. Ten minutes later, with all the pomp they could create in such a time, Mickey and Minnie came out and escorted "Cinderella" and her family, along with the female trio to the princess receiving room where they had assembled all the princesses and their princes. So this little girl was able to go to her ball for a few minutes, all because a few people "paid forward" and a wonderful CM made it happen. That is the real Disney and that is why we go back time and time again.
