Cinderella coming to DVD????

One of my students said she heard on the radio this morning that the movie Cinderella was being released out to DVD and video soon. She didn't know when.

Has anyone else heard this news? We asked her if maybe she thought it was one of the princess videos that would just feature Cinderella, and she said it was not , it was supposed to be the Cinderella DVD.

Is she just being overly hopefull about this, or is there any truth in it?

Thanks Annette. I think I remember reading it on the rumors and news board a while back- which is just that- RUMORS and news so it may not be right. Someone had posted a long-term release calendar for the classics. Disney usually releases 2 classics a year- around the fall and spring. This year was Aladdin and Bambi. There is not a classic slated for next fall on the official calendar yet. My guess is they won't announce it until after Bambi and the INcredibles are released- if not later. Guess we'll have to wait and see...

I don't think it's really a rumour because it's been discussed at length on Home Theater Forum and The Digital Bits. They are usually good with the real thing. (as opposed to unbased rumours)

I thought that one of the recent movies we got said the Spring of 2006. I wish I could remember which one. I'll ask the kids later.

I remember seeing it as coming out in the UK in September/early October. I thought I saw it on an official Disney site but I can't be 100% sure but I know that was definately the dates I saw.

My DD's 5th birthday was yesterday. One of her presents was the Aladdin Platinum Edition DVD.

Inside it has a flyer about two upcoming releases for 2005:
* Bambi in March
* Cinderella in October

So I'm guessing it's pretty official.

We just bought the twin pack of "Return of Jafar" and Aladdin 3. We watched "Return of Jafar" and it has two previews -- one of Bambi for March and one of Cinderella for October 2005.

Disney usually releases 2 classics a year- around the fall and spring. This year was Aladdin and Bambi.

They can't stick with their 2-each-year plan. Especially when HD-DVD is going to be released in September 2005. If my calculation is correct, by Summer 2007, the price of HD-DVD players will reach the magical $299 price point (or even lower) that all of us fans will have to rebuy all of those movies in High-Def format.

That means Disney will have to complete the DVD releases before Summer of 2007 and start re-releasing them and calling them "available for the first time on High Definition".

Gotta love movie collecting. Owned about 200 Betamax tapes, then replaced with about 500 LaserDisc, replaced with 1200 DVDs, and I can see them replaced (again) with HD-DVDs. NUTS!

I should find another hobby...
