Cigarettes and my room

The wallpaper in my room (put up by the previous owners of our house) smells like cigarettes. I know for a fact that the previous owners did NOT smoke, and I've also heard something called cigarette walls. Does anybody know what this is?

I've never heard of cigarette walls. Maybe the previous owners had a lot of other family/friends who smoked.

I know when my in-laws were alive and we had a holiday dinner here, it would take days to get rid of the smell. Dan's link seems like a helpful one though.
