Ciao Mickey, This is NOT Disney. The real Europe visited...8/16 - Day 9.11 & 9.12

The side streets of Venice look really quiet! Where were the people?

Lasagne looks lovely. Glad you didn't eat at BK!

:lmao: This is what happens when I check my mail from Tom's computer. :lmao: I did not even notice I used his account. :rotfl2:
:lmao:

Yikes, a Burger King ............ glad you did not stop there, they are horrible here in Europe.
And there is even a McD close to the Rialto. But it is nicely disguised. :lmao:

Your lasagna looks a bit odd to me, but I was glad to read that you enjoyed it. :thumbsup2
I am not a fan of them here in the States. I missed that one. Mickey D's I like.

All by the Grand Canal.
It was so good. I wish I could find the recipe.

This looks like a nice place to eat.

I love this picture! So nice!

Pretty funny that you went back to the same restaurant you had lunch in. That lasagna looks delish!

Too bad the Disney store didn't have more location specific merchandise. That Karin - she really knows her way around.

Yay for a hard rock cafe. I bet it was hard not to buy the hurricane glass.

After dinner we walked back to the hotel. I took pics of the nighttime on the canal along the way.

Definitely had boat traffic going.

Everyone was tired and was going to call it a night, but I wanted to walk down a little and see some more things being we were leaving early in the morning. Lorraine said she would go to so I went to her room and this was it.

Thank you.
I think I objected to try something new but was out voted and I am so happy I was. It was so good.
Yes she does. :thumbsup2
it was being I have one from every location I have visited but I knew it would not survive.

I haven't read your whole report, but I am definitely jealous of all your beautiful Venice pictures. It looks like you guys had a blast, and you definitely found some beautiful spots. I was in Europe for a month and a half this summer, touring mainly Spain and Italy, and we rented a beautiful apartment in Venice only for me to get sick the day before we arrived! I spent the whole Venice portion of our trip sick in bed! The only thing I got to see was the grocery store. But from what little I did see of the city, I felt it was the most beautiful of anywhere else we visited except maybe Cinque Terre.

Glad to see you had such a great time.

And thanks for the tip about the Venice Disney store, when I finally get a chance to do a do-over trip, I'm going to add that to my to do list.

Edited to add: I just realized that you can see the apartment building we stayed in in one of your pics. It was down a little ally on the right side (facing the church from water) of the big domed church, but at the back facing the other canal, not the one the church faces. You can just see it behind the domed church in one of your pics. I will be copying that. I was too sick to even think of taking a pic of it before we left. So thanks for that.

Lovely night shots. You make me wish I had a trip to Europe planned.

I hope you and Lorraine had a nice walk. Looking forward to seeing it.

:welcome:
I would love to do Europe for 1 1/2 months. Sorry you got sick. That stinks when it happens on vacation. I do hope you get a do over trip in the future.
Thankfully I read Karin's tr that informed of it.
Funny I got a pic of the building. Copy away. :thumbsup2

Thanks.
:rotfl2: I wish I did too. We do for 2016 but seems so far away.
We did and you will soon.

The boatride in Venice seemed very nice. The Lasagne looked good, now I'm craving some!

Oh the day I was dreading to write about. The day I royally screwed up. We got up early and I showered and packed up the remaining things and then we went to have breakfast. I believe everyone else was in there already. I had a hard boiled egg and some meat and cheese. After we ate we had to go to the train station as our train was at 8:30. We gather up everything and check out and head over to the train station. Quick walk and we look at the board and do not see our train. I think Donna or mark went over to ask a lady at a desk and then we got the news I did not like hearing, we were at the wrong station. OY! OMG! WHAT??? I booked this because it was the cheapest one out and it gave us time in the morning to get ready and eat. I was absolutely mortified. I spent so much time researching for the trip how could I not know there was an other train station. Vinny went to talk to the guest services desk while Donna & Mark went to get new tickets (I am still feeling horrible). No refunds on the tickets at all (I think it a scam to unsuspecting tourists, LOL) and Mark purchases our tickets but now we have over 4 hours to kill and our bags. Someone suggests we ask the hotel to hold our bags and then go find somewhere to have coffee and sit.
I walk back to the hotel I think with Jeffrey or Mark and ask if we can leave our bags after I tell them of my mess up and they said sure and told me where to put the bags. I tried texting everyone but the service there was not so good but eventually we are all together. Here is Jeffrey as we waited for the others.

Soon enough we are on our way to walk and see the sights.
15058783924_86b2bafe18_c.jpg

Here is the time. We should be getting close to Florence by now had I not messed up.

The way we went is the same way Lorraine and I went the night before. Some items for sale.

Then we came to a church.

Up next,

We explore the church.

:scared1: When you said you dreaded writing this day and then said you were heading for the station I was like ............ NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!! Don't tell me there was a mix up with the stations. :sad2:

But at least you got in a few more hours in Venice and we all got some more amazing pics. Did you buy a mask in Venice? They have awesome stores and quite reasonable prices.
Oh, and the sweets in the shopwindow looked yummy. Good thing you did not go inside, ;) because, when we do we leave with heaps of sweets. :rotfl2:

Can't wait for you getting to Florence. Another BEAUTIFUL city. :thumbsup2

Messing up on a train station is a common mistake. I hope you didn't beat yourself up too much. It seems like you got some great walking time in Venice with the extra time.

DH and I backpacked through Europe when we were young and single. We constantly missed trains during that time and usually ended up meandering through the town or city we were at.
But then...in those days, there was no internet and the way we travelled were a lot less scheduled. Sometimes, I think that was a much more simpler and enjoyable way to travel. :rolleyes1

I'm sure that everybody understood and forgave you for the "mistake". I'd have totally pleaded my case with the "scam" reference you made. :lmao:

It's like Karin said...at least you had more time to spend in Venice. Those vendors sure do pile up a lot of things to sell in one little area.

Yes there was. :sad2: I was so embarrassed.
That was a good thing that we did get a few more hours. I wish I did but I was afraid it would break in my bags. I could have done damage in the sweet shop but I refrained. LOL
:thumbsup2

That would be nice if true. LOL. Not really but I do still feel bad.
it was a simpler time back then. I kind of miss the 80's when I grew up. LOL

I think most did. It wouldn't have helped.
Yeah I was happy for that.
They do put a lot on the stands. It is surprising they don't fall over or collapse. LOL

Like I said we were coming to a church.

Then we went inside. I am just going to post the pics as I think they are pretty much self explanatory.

Then we left the church. It was a very nice church, small but nice. Kind of was glad we got to see it. I think I will stop here.

Up next,

Still in Venice.

As others have said don't feel bad about the station. The trains in Italy about gave me a nervous breakdown. They are confusing, and it is very hard to get good information on them.

And if it makes you feel any better, I scheduled our flights out of Venice without realizing that the Venice airport isn't actually in Venice. It is in another city completely. So that was a fun experience. At least you were in the right town.

I'm sorry you had a problem with your scheduled train, but as PIO said, when I traveled through Europe there was no internet and schedules were silly. We showed up when did and we had no reservations anywhere, we just walked up to places and said, "do you have a place to stay?" Albeit we were 30 years younger or so, but it was an adventure back then. Evidently before the internet travel was much easier because all you had to do was show up at the train and get on, not make so many advance reservations. I hope you were able to get where you wanted to go, but at least you got some more time ti check out where you were!
