Churro Waffles- Concierge Only?

We tried RC, Celebrity and Princess since taking our first Disney cruise. The RC was just meh. I'm not into a hairy leg contest. That's just not real entertainment for me. Also it was Spring Break and there were a lot of young sloppy drunks. I could write a book here but I won't.

The Celebrity cruise (Aqua class) was probably closest to DCL in service and food quality, but the ship was older (still younger than the Magic) and in depserate need of some maintenance. The entertainment options were lame compared to DCL. I kept trying to keep an open mind and stop nitpicking at the parts of the ship that look like they're literally falling apart but after a while I started taking pictures of it because I couldn't stand it anymore. Things like electrical wires hanging down from lights beneath the railings. :sad2:
Our last stop was Nassau and sure enough, we docked next to the Dream. Close enough that I could hear the chimes before they made an announcement.:sad: Of course the CMs were already out there cleaning and spraying her down. I'm watching her shine and thinking how much I'd rather be there. :lovestruc

Our Princess cruise was just in September. It was a 12-nt British Isles to Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland and France for our 30th anniversary. I was willing to try Princess only because it was a very port-intensive itinerary and I knew we'd not be on the ship all that much, just a place to sleep and shower, eat breakfast & dinner. After a few days we were too tired most evenings for shows. Some were good. Some were so bad we can't believe we sat through them. The average age was probably 75. I'm in my late 50s and I only saw a handful of people younger than me.

Dh would like to try Virgin on the recommendation of a coworker who has also cruised DCL when her kids were young.
I already don't like their cabin layout and furniture in a regular balcony cabin but I will do it for dh. I already predict he will complain about that and it will remind him how nice DCL cabins are and how much storage they have. Cabins are only one aspect of a cruise, not everything to me, so I'm still willing to see what else they offer in a cruise experience. No definite plans as of now. Maybe in the fall. We are booked on the Treasure in April.

We were on a dream sailing around this time.

I never eat breakfast in cabanas and have never heard of or eaten a churro waffle.

The evening prior to our sea day the head waiter came over and highlighted the fact that cabanas would be having churro waffles tomorrow. Wasn’t sure if that was a tradition on the sea day, something they always have every day but didn’t until that day, or whatever.

Just providing another data point.

Those old pictures with the ice sculptures and decor are downright depressing to look at as someone who started cruising after all of that is gone.

The Dream continues to offer the evening snacks. The elimination of Happy Hours I find so bizarre. It has just made the bars feel even deader than they already were.
Thank you for the update. 14 days we will be on the Dream. Can’t wait.

Yes. A 7 night DCL cruise for around $4000 seems reasonably priced - I would give up all of the small extras for a lower price. We are super easy. We just want to relax in the shade in an adult only area and read a book, listen to music and watch the ocean. We like a walking track, a nice gym, good food at dinner, music and drinks before dinner, and some adult only trivia and entertainment. We very rarely see any of the broadway shows, never see characters or attend any of the family activities.
So why go on a dcl ship given you can get that for cheaper on other ships?

While I will really miss churro waffles onboard if it is indeed true that it would be an upcharge or Concierge only......I can still get my fix at home. I have been making churro waffles at home for a few years now.

I bought a mini Mickey waffle maker (it makes 6 waffles at a time) and I use this mix. I follow the package directions but add milk instead of water, I add some vanilla in addition to the oil and eggs. Some people use a mix that has malt in it but I find the Krusteaz brand works fine my taste buds. After they come out of the waffle maker I brush them with melted butter and dredge them in a cinnamon/sugar mixture. They are yummy!!

And thats why they are doing it. Cos more people will want it.

But for people who have money but limited time for holidays we want the premium services and are happy to pay for it. Cos its time we are in short supply of. Not money.

Ps. I would never pay for concierge. I dont understand what im even getting for that upcharge. I guess now batter suggared mickey waffles.

Have posted comparisons before and IMO, if one is willing to pay for a WISH Inside or Oceanview, why not try a cruise line that offers more for around an inside DCL

6/15/2026 4 night WISH INTERIOR @ $4,145.00 and Oceanview @ $4,465.00 btw - Concierge @ $9,273.00

6/21/2026 4 night MSC Seashore Yacht Club Deluxe Suite with Balcony @ $4,264.00 -- MSC's Concierge is Yacht Club --

While MsC isn’t for me. I’d gladly move to HAL Cunard or Princess. All of which are more affordable than DCL.

I was on the MV and my understanding was that they were still teaching a lot of the staff how to make the various things onboard. About half the crew are new and apparently the churro waffles are labor intensive (they have to each be fried and then dipped in cinnamon sugar mix and it takes awhile). Our server informed us they will get things up and running at full-speed very soon.

We also didn't have sprinkles on the Mickey Bars at dinner, again, still sorting things out. We also had the weird European hash browns and some other things were odd. They ran out of oat milk. (Apparently the provisioning folks are also learning the ropes.) Our server was an 11 year veteran off the Dream and our head server launched with the Wish, Treasure and now Destiny and said things just take a bit to sort out.

I think the rumors are just a little bit crazy. We had a lot of VIPs onboard in concierge and they were probably just trying to bring them something special/impress them while simultaneously teaching the new galley crew how to make them.

TBH, I find them cloyingly sweet, greasy and inedible. I don't get all the excitement. But fear not, I'm sure they'll make a full debut on the Destiny soon enough.

I get what you and the CMs are trying to say, but it’s hard for me to buy it when DCL managed just fine for the Wish and Treasure maiden sailings (and the Wish especially was clearly not ready for primetime). And selling them in Edna’s while saying they aren’t ready doesn’t send the best message.

The churro waffles are not my favorite thing either but like when happy hours disappeared or the live animation class went away, it wasn't fleetwide all at once. It was a ship by ship test to see how much they could push it and how loudly guests would complain. I am seeing this not as a loss of a snack (I don't care for them either) but as a worrying trend on DCL lately. They have recently cut the pirate night fireworks from several of the MDAS sailings coming up as well... I am not a fan at all of this direction DCL is taking
