Chronic Fatigue?

I have been exhausted these past few weeks, regardless of how much sleep I get. I feel like I can take a nap at any time of the day. I don't think I get too much sleep because I know that can cause tiredness. On the average weekday I go to sleep between midnight and 1 and wake up at 8:30. Thats seven to eight hours. But I still wake up tired and not refreashed. I have no energy to do anything, even walk across campus for food. I also have been having trouble focusing in class because I can only think about my nice, warm bed.

I talked to my mom and she thinks it is because of my lack of exercise. I used to work out 5-7 times a week last school year but now that I am in college, I have stopped. But I didn't work out over the summer and I didn't feel like this. And this has been pretty sudden.

Also, since yesterday I've been getting these severe headaches that come on suddenly. Tylenol helps but wears off pretty quickly. I looked up chronic fatigue syndrom but it says the fatigue has to persist for six months so I don't think I have it but I was just wondering if anyone has experienced anything like this and if you had any opinions or advice.

Thanks.

Any other symptoms? How is your eating? Do you bleed a lot when you get cut and it takes forever to heal? What is your skin tone, darker, lighter than usual or normal?

My sister has chronic fatigue & it means debilitating fatigue...as in you can't lift your arm or head without effort type - not just tired or sleepy.

My senior year in college I started to have the same type of symptoms. Later, things progressed & it turned out I had become diabetic.

Another thought is a slow thryoid. Do you have allergies? When my sinuses swell, I often wake up felling really, really tired because I'm not getting enough oxygen while sleeping - at least that's what the doctor said.

Also, depending upon your circumstances, take a pregnancy test. That kind of exhaustian is very typical of early pregnancy. If it doesn't resolve itself soon you need to see a doctor and have some bloodwork done.

Erin :D

I was going to say the same things as mrsltg. Exhaustion is a BIG part of early pregnancy...can last up to 3 months.

Stress without excercise and proper eating habits can cause this. Its possible the added stress of school and the lack of excercise have combined to cause you problems. Try adding 20 minutes of gentle arobic excercise to your daily routine and see if it makes a difference.

I have Fibro as well.

it does cause the fatigue you describe, for me it isnt debilatating its just annoying, I just dont feel like Im ever awake some times.

Hope you feel better soon!

Ask your doc about anemia too.

I was diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome from a blood test my doctor took. I had a cough for months and tried many medicines. My doctor decided to take a blood test to see what was going on. I didn't have alot of symptoms, except for falling asleep early watching TV. She said many people have and don't know it. Sometimes it flairs up and other times I'm full of energy.

Go to the doctor , it could be something else.

I feel like that when my iron gets too low (it's low all the time, but sometimes it gets really really low). Have you had labs done recently to see how your iron levels are? You might be anemic, and need iron pills to boost that up.

Change of lifestyle can also do that - stress of school, not working out, not eating right, etc. Your body is trying to adjust from it.

Try taking some multivitamins, fit in walking to your schedule or any exercise you might get in, drink lots of water, and work on some stress relieving tactics. If things don't improve, you might want to see your doc about it, and they can run some basic labs for you.

I, too, know people with chronic fatigue and they can't even function - seriously seriously debilitating.

I just started exercise and wow I cannot believe the improvement it has made. You exercised 5-7 times a week and now you are doing nothing. I definetly would start there! Take a class!!! Good Luck...

(unless of course you may think you are pregnant, then I might start with a pregnancy test.)

My DS is away at university and has been having the same trouble - totally exhausted all of the time. He went to the campus doctor and they are doing blood work. The doctor told him that of all the students he sees who are exhausted, the cause is physical 20% of the time and stress-related 80% of the time.

I sounded like you earliier this year.

I was diagnosed with anemia and low thryoid. Both are easy to check with a simple blood test.

herc.

Another thought is: Have you ever had mono? If you have, you will usually carry the Epstein-Barr virus in your body for life. This virus can lay dormant and then "act up" occasionally especially during periods of heavy stress. I also believe it is one of the culprits in Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.

I was thinking Mono. I know when I had it I was always tired and had horrible headaches. I could not get enough sleep, and 8 hours didn't cut it. I first had symptoms in June and thought it was just a cold, got worse, ended up in the hospital for 8 days in July and was finally able to return to work in September. Not fun.

Depression, could be depression. I had this too, about 4yrs ago.
