I've searched the forums and haven't found the info I need, which may mean it is blasphemy on these forums, but ...

We are flying to Orlando then driving to Jacksonville the weekend before Christmas. I was thinking of stopping for a couple of hours to enjoy some of the Disney Christmas magic without entering the parks (we're on a tiny budget). Anyone have any advice or suggestions? Is this worth doing? Am I crazy?

I was thinking maybe GF for the gingerbread house and maybe the Disney shopping area (the one where La Nouba is?) might have some nice Christmas flavor, but could we get into these places without a ticket? Would it be a waste of time on a Saturday? I loved the Animal Kingdom Lodge when we stayed there -- is that worth visiting briefly at the Holidays?

Would it be insane to try to get lunch somewhere? Where would you recommend?

All insight appreciated,
Catt

.....go to DTD and have a great meal and shop and just drink in all the Holiday
Magic. My DH and I went last July just to see the Pirate movie at DTD. We
never wandered out of the downtown area. It's kinda relaxing to go and know
that you won't be fighting crowds and lines at the parks. Enjoy and Happy
Holidays! :thumbsup2

:thumbsup2 We are getting to Disney a day early so that we can go to the different resorts and down town Disney and not feel bad about not being in the parks. The resorts are all decorated and festive, as is DTD so don't miss out! I think it would be a fun to stop and check things out.

DTD is filled with Holiday atmosphere ad does not require admission. I'm sure you could find somewhere to eat - you might have to wait. DTD has severeal restaurants - Capn Jacks, Rain Forest Earl of Sandwich (great sandwiches, etc) Wolfgang Pucks.

AKL is a great place to visit - it too is decorated with a huge tree, etc. We were there on Sunday before I took my Dsis to the airport and spent about an hour wandering around and watching the animals.

The Grand Floridian is great with the Gingerbread house. We also enjoy the Beach Club Carousel.

I have been in Orlando before for a non-park visit and we went one night to DTD and had a great time walking around and eating dinner. I don't think your idea is crazy at all. Have a good time and enjoy the decorations.
