Hi,
This is my first year w/ a real tree. Its a white pine (long circular needles).
Can anyone tell me how much I am supposed to water it? The tree stand is empty every night so it's drinking a lot of water. Can you over water a Christmas tree?

TIA

I'm not sure if you can kill your tree by over watering it. I have always put water till the top of my trees trunk, and it has never died this way.
But if it does not have water, then yes it will die.
I have been using the tree chemical that you can buy along with the trees to preserve it. Mix that solution with the water and water your tree daily.
Since your tree stand is empty everyday, you might want to water your tree two or three times.
When you put in the water, let the tree absorb the water for a few minutes, then check the amount of water it has and fill it up again. Your tree sounds as if it isn't getting enough water since there would usually still be water left at the ending of the day for a regular tree.

Question-how tall is your tree?

keep it watered all the time.........IS this a tree that you can plant later or is this a tree that will get dumped......
IF it is a dump tree after....please remember to water it all the time......a dry tree is dangerous.....
IF it is a real tree......go on line and find the tree and the instructions for care.
have a great holiday

It's 8 feet tall.
I would love to plant it after the season but I don't know how that works. I guess it's too late for that anyway since it was cut down from a tree farm and it doesn't have any roots.

I have done searches on the internet and I can't find any information about watering or replanting it.

You have a cut white pine.
The only thing you need to do is keep water in the tree stand. Eventually a callous will form on the bottom of the trunk and the tree will stop taking up water. Depending on the humidity of the house etc. the tree will begin to dry out rather quickly after that point. White pine will hold its needles fairly well.
You do not need any preservative. It wont hurt but it wont help either.
What will help is using hot ( just steaming water like you would use for tea )
The tree cannot be replanted.
