The one we usually have up is a lighted star. Sometimes I put up the Lighted Angel we have. My husband would love something like the King Kong or a Death Star but I'd be vetoing that!

I have this on my small tree, which I do all in blue and white. I'm sure there are a few other geeks on the board who will get it.

On our main/real tree, I have a multi-colored stained glass look star that my grandmother used to put up.

I have a TARDIS ornament, but that's just scary, lol.

The angel has been around since the kids were babies. It's just a cheap one I bought at probably Walmart, and it's showing it's age, but the lights still work, the kids like it, so it's still here. In years past, I used stars and bows also.

We finally bought a proper star a couple of years ago. But over the years we've had various things, depending on how close the top of the tree came to the ceiling. My favorite goofy one is a puffy yellow smiley face ornament about five inches in diameter.

The tiny artificial tree I put up already because our real one will be going up late this year just has a pretty bow tied from wired ribbon.

We have a gold star- it's a cool filigree design and just looks simple and classic, but most importantly, seems to stay on every tree we've ever had (we get real).

Exact same here, except for a couple of years during my early childhood that DMom used a tin-foil star I made as an art project. It was hideous but she was a great mother and displayed it proudly. I'd love to see it again just for old time's sake.

That is so sweet! Reminds me of when we lived in Saudi Arabia when I was a kid. We couldn't or didn't bring ornaments over, but somehow everyone always had a tree and ornaments because someone was moving back home and would give you their tree- they were all just passed around. My dad helped my brother and I make a tin foil star and then when we moved back to the states we'd use it every year up till we were out of the house. She dug it out a few years ago when we visited and we had a good laugh.

Always wanted a simple lighted 3 dimensional star like the one we had when I was a child.Asked my mother if I could have her's but it was destroyed in the year of the perpetually falling Christmas tree along with a lot of other ornaments .
Never could find one so have done many toppers through the years that are frequently home made/crafted:

A faceless straw angel from IKEA was a fav until it was crushed.
Made an oversized lebkuchen gingerbread type angel cookie with edible gold leafed wings once. Lasted about 4 years before it began to crumble.
A Moravian star made of metallic ribbon...very relaxing to make.

Lately I've been using a store bought 20" peacock which has the parrot a lil perplexed ( I'm getting replaced? By that?!). Worked well on the L/R tree which had a bird theme.
Still wish I could find a simple star- no gold, no tinsel, no shell glass - just a star.
