Christmas Tree at Wilderness Lodge

This sounds like a great Idea. A couple of years back we took a Friday-morning-after-Thanksgiving tour of some of the resort lobbies. The trees do go up Thursday night. It is still one of the most MAGICAL things they do!

This is much more likely to get a response on the Theme Park Attractions & Stratagies Board, or the resort Board.

I heard that when they put up the Chrismtas tree in the Wildnerness Lodge they make it a production....people camp out and spend the night and watch it happen. Anyone know anything about it and when it is?

Hmmm....I was considering cancelling my 9:40 ps at the Whispering Canyon Cafe for Thanksgiving.....but maybe I should keep it so we can watch the tree starting to go up during our meal! Could be interesting.....

If I remember correctly the tree goes up either thanksgiving night or the friday night after. There was a disney magazine article in the winter addition a while back. Yes If i remember people do camp out and get all into it. I am not sure if the CM make a production out of it since they have to decorate the whole resort in one night (that s right one night). It has just become a tradtion that people get themselves a comfy chair (there are plenty in the loby) and watch the magic. If you can, stay up and watch them put up the most beautiful tree at disney(in my opinion).:bounce:

We watched them take the tree down, and the event occurs through the night. I'd get up every so often and look out into the lobby to sneak a peek. They have to "yellow tape" off a large portion of the lobby since they use a crane and hydraulic lift to dissemble the tree, so it would be better to watch from an above floor, I believe.

We were lucky enough to be staying at WL two years ago when the tree went up. We were having breakfast at Whispering Canyon while they were doing it. It didn't seem like anyone but us were all that interested at the time but we were amazed. They use a cherry picker type vehicle to put whole sections together and the sections already had lights and a few decorations on them. It was really a neat thing to see. We were so glad we hadn't missed it.

IAMaGR8DISMOM.....

We were there the week before Thanksgiving.

Oh darn! Well, I guess arriving the day after turkey day will be too late to see the lobby transform. I was so looking forward to seeing it first "plain" and then with all the Christmas decorations the next morning. Oh well, it will still be so wonderful to finally see Disney decked out for the holidays. We have never seen it before!
:) :) :) :) :) :) :)

You are in for real treat Tig-girl! There is nothing quite as beautiful as Disney at Christmas. Especially the Wilderness Lodge. It will take your breath away. Have a great time!

Hi All...The Christmas tree at Wilderness Lodge is going up on November 13th and 14th.....I hope this helps.....

DW and I were at Wilderness Lodge last year the full week before Thanksgiving. We watched all of the decorations go up. We came back one evening after watching Fantasmic at MGM and there were several Semi Trailers out front of the lodge. The next morning all of the garland/light strings in the halls and the outer canopies were up along with several Wreaths.

The next night we got cups of coffee and sat in the lobby to preceed to watch the assembly of the massive tree in the lobby. They actually bring Genie Booms and a Crane into the lobby for this project.

This happens long before Thanksgiving though. It was the Wednesday night the full week before Thanksgiving.

Hope this helps. I have pictures on our web site.:p
