The wife and I are planning on surprising our kiddos with a trip to Disney as a Christmas gift this year. We know it will be busy, and we have looked at pricing...We are planning to book soon. Doing the 26-31! We are going to do a package...

Anything special that you all would pass along to us? Neither of us have been in 20+ years. We are also hoping that our families are going to decide to join us!

Please share anything we may need to do. Our twins will be 11 (both boys) and our youngest will be 3.

Thanks for any help!

:welcome: TO THE DIS BOARDS!
My sister & I really enjoy the DIS and have found it to have valuable information in helping to plan for our WDW vacations. She actually is the planner and I try to help some. We went in 2003 after not going for 15 years.
Boy, had things changed in that time period. We were fortunate that we were able to book under the Fairy Tale Package for a week and were able to stay at AKL. First time for us to stay on property and after that we were sold on WDW. We've been able to go about 3 more times since with other family members. My sister became a Disney Vacation Member in 2010 so that helps us have a place to stay while there. It takes us a good day to get there and back so we try to stay at least a week.
Christmas time is very festive and Disney decorations are wonderful. If you get time it is entertaining just to go around to the different on property resorts like the Contemporary, Grand Floridian, Wilderness Lodge, ect.. and just look.
My niece and her husband had a 3 year old and a 6mo old when we were there in 2012. We stayed at BLT so it was convenient for them to just walk over to the Magic Kingdom, it seemed to be the park they visited the most while there. There were 10 of us total with 8 adults and 2 children so we tried to eat at least 1 meal a day together. I think we did about 2 Character meals since we were on the Dining Plan. We had the Deluxe Dining Plan, but found we were eating all the time. So this next trip we are just going to do the Standard Dining Plan.
It can get rather expensive, but there are some great threads and websites with information on how to budget and save money. I am trying to do one now that is called the 52 week plan, where you put so much aside each week.
So Happy Planning, if you are like my sister that is half the fun! :goodvibes

we too love Disney at Xmas...the décor is amazing! make sure to check out the gingerbread houses at the resorts. we have found that prepurchasing the photopass is a must for us. we do the PP+, allowing us to add in the ride photos and any that come with any of the sit down meals. the first thing we do after booking is purchasing our PassPorter guide/amazing planning book. it will not just give you a book but also the access to their on line items and updates. If you go into the xmas season at Disney prepared for the craziest thing you can imagine(crowds and such) you wont think it is that bad. We only go during xmas week due to kids' schedules and wouldn't do it any other way! make sure you get your ADRs early or they will not be available. most of all....ENJOY....
