I have a friend who is planning to surprise her kids (17 & 14) with a trip to Disney for Christmas. She can't book flights until May and is wondering how to time it.

For those who have booked flights around the holidays.... if she books the day flights come out on Southwest will there be a big price difference between Christmas day and the day after?

Her preference would be to give them the gift/surprise on Christmas day and fly out the day after-- on the 26th. Do you see any issues with this plan?:santa:

I booked the day flights came out for 2013. Flew in on December 21. When I checked later just to see prices they had doubled! Very glad to book when I did. This was out of Philly

Xmas day is usually cheaper. Sometimes there is not a big difference between refundable and non. If not huge book refundable and check fars often. U can always rebook and get the cheaper fair.

I think she should do due diligence by checking rates out now. For instance what are they like during spring break and afterwards to get a sense of what to pay when rates get released. We are leaving Christmas eve for WDW and will probably need to buy one ticket (other 3 credit card miles) and know if something becomes available around $300-$350 I won't hesitate in pulling the trigger.
