So this is weird. Joann's was 60-70% off before Christmas, now it's only 50%.
Kohl's was 50% last night, but I thought 50-60 before Christmas.
TJ Maxx was still 50%.
Target was 70%. Good but I only found 1 roll of wrapping paper, and that was in the returns cart. In the clearance one lady found a Nespresso for 10.00, and I found an air fryer for 14.99! For some reason, I bought 2.

Does anyone (maybe work in retail) have the inside scoop on Markdown Dates.

Last year CVS didn't even mark down wrapping paper until a week after. This year was the day after Christmas.

I don't work in retail, but my guess is they have steeper discounts before Christmas because they are trying to move the inventory - especially anything dated - before Christmas. After, most of the stuff can go into their storage to be pulled out next year so there's not as much incentive to give major price breaks.

I am seeing Hobby Lobby at 90% off on social media. I went last week when it was 60% otherwise I ran the risk of there not being any gift wrap and bags left.

I went to Target the day after Christmas and pretty much had the pick of what I wanted. It was an out of the way Target. Last year I waited till NY day and everything was gone. I went to Menards and they were 50% off. We got a 1000 LED string of lights for our grapevine outside. I had 5 strings of lights connected and so many were burnt out, my husband kept telling me he will fix them. He never went out there. I rearranged them so many times. I figured the lights are well over 8 years old. My husband stored them, but I am throwing them in the garbage and he won’t even know the difference. I saw Walgreens had 30% off candy on Christmas Eve and I grabbed some expensive candy for our mail lady and got it in our mailbox that day. Next year I will get her a gas card. I am betting she is delivering to another 50 houses that are brand new.

We were at lowes on 12/23 and found all their Christmas stuff marked down 75% but there was little left. I was able to grab 100 string clear lights for $1, a flocked 6' swag for $9 and we bought a 7.5 flocked tree for $87 ($348 regular) and used two gift cards we bought the week before at 20% off! That tree was net $70...just a lucky thing that we 1. stopped and 2. I thought to put those gift cards in my bag "just in case" LOL! We were shocked that they were getting rid of everything BEFORE Christmas.

We use 300 string clear lights year round on our screen porch and replace each string at about 4 months or so. I now have a good backstock to last until next Christmas. We already had a tree up and decorated in the great room, so the new one is still in the box for next year. I had a tree in one of the attic windows and next year will put the other old tree in another attic window. I paid the electrician 1K to put 10 more outlets in the attic so I can have twinkly trees for all the little kids that ride by our house!!

It's all back in storage yay!!

Great idea with the outlets. I wish we would have out more outlets outside, instead of at ground level. All lights are up high. I remember even talking to the electrician. It went in one year and out the other. Our Pergola is lit up with larger bulbs and I see some are out. I do replace them, but my husband says we are over loading the circuit, so he don’t mind when some are blown out. I just grumble and say, if you would of listened to me and put in more outlets.

I saw the Kohl's around me had all their Xmas stuff by the front entrance at 50% off. I laughed. If it's not 75% off or more by Jan 4th there is something WRONG!

Has Walmart clearanced out any of their Christmas stuff yet? And has Macy's had their Christmas clearance yet?

My Walmart had replaced all the Christmas merchandise with Valentines merchandise before New Year's Day.

I watched a news story after Christmas on companies that specialize in buying up unsold and returned Christmas merchandise. Some merchants just ship everything to this company. They no longer mess with marking the merchandise down or putting it back on the rack, costs less just to ship it out.

We had a Goodwill that would take all the clearance items from Target stores and when my family would go to Goodwill we would find Target clearance items on sale as low as $3 and our Goodwill sold clearance toys from Target books magazines DVDs of movies for $5,99 and music cd's from Target for sale as low as $7 and my family would actually score awesome deals from Goodwill. I think this is probably what your stores did with their After-Christmas clearance items TVguy. Because this is a little known secret that shoppers who are looking for clearance sale items don't even realize exists
