One can do charity work and do Christmas shopping.

One can adopt-a-family and still give gifts. Some can do both and still not be paying off credit cards in the spring.

Do you also not put up a tree since those light use energy to run and cost money?

Do you not take a vacation but spend all of you time off from work serving others in a soup kitchen and use the money to buy food for the hungery?

I don't care how much a person spends or how they celebrate. If they want to put gifts or a vacation on a CC, I don't care unless they don't pay their bills and want me to bail them out.

There just comes a time when you have to say enough is enough. My son certainly isn't missing out because there's not a stack of gifts under the tree. Trust me, he has plenty of things already :). I decided we had enough when my niece called to complain that my brother said he wouldn't buy her both and Ipad and an Iphone and since we had a lot of money we could buy them for her. I just told her in the best sympathy voice I could muster that no, we're not handing out gifts this year and I am sorry she's not getting what she wants. I got hung up on.

That is not a money problem but a brat problem.

With two adult sons, two daughter-in-laws, my mom, spouse, and seven grandkids I'll be spending ALOT more than $700.00.

Why would he say something like that to her? DO you have a history of spending $800 on this child?

That just seems odd. No one would be telling their kids (or even mine!) that *I* would spend anywhere near that on one child because no one would expect me to do it.

I think you need to have a talk with your brother and his child.
