I am usually done shopping way before now, and this year I am so behind I am starting to panic. It's not the way I usually am so for the first time I can feel what others feel about the "dreaded shopping."
My issues are with my DD11 and DD8. I have bought them nothing. If I didn't buy them something I'd be OK with it, we don't do much for them on our Disney years which this was, but Santa has bought nothing yet either. They have asked for nothing, I have sat them down to write letters to Santa (I don't think DD11 still believes, though she hasn't said for sure, but all the kids do letters to give ideas.) My DD16 wrote one with suggestions so she is set, DD11 just wrote a thank you for last years gifts and said have a good Christmas, didn't ask for anything and DD8 said surprise me.
I don't know what to get them. They can't have nothing to open on Christmas. Santas gifts are about all they get. We don't have much family. My mom will get them each a book (not one they ask for, one she wants them to have. For DD16 it will likely be an SAT study guide, DD11 and DD8 will be something about science, neither of which they are interested in so while it's the thought that counts and they will be polite and say thank you, it won't be too exciting for them.) My grandparents will give them each money as will my great-grandma. They enjoy this a lot so when they do want something later in the year they can get it, but that leaves nothing wrapped and that is it from our extended family. No one else buys for my kids. So, that leaves us and Santa as the only gifts they will get.
As of now I have 3 Wii games and 2 DS games that they all will get as a shared gift. But what else for girls this age. They aren't into toys and DD11 especially doesn't like to waste money on junky stuff.
Ideas for that age group? I want them to have presents to open but this year I am just at a loss. We love to play board games but after 3 kids we have so many. Same with clothes, with 3 girls we have too many as it is and very little closet space. And space is an issue as well, nothing too big our house is just under 1200sf for the 5 of us so the idea of Big Things Come In Small Packages is a good one. I will do some giftcards probably, but same as cash they aren't so fun to open and being that my years of having believers is winding down and I want to enjoy seeing DD8 enjoy Santa's visit.
Thanks for your suggestions.
