I've never tried to reserve DVC during the Christmas holidays. I'm hoping to spend Christmas 2014 at BWV, go on a 3 day cruise and then return and spend New Year's (and the week after) at AKL (Club if possible). Both are my home resorts.

My question is ... I'm interested in something like Dec 23-26 for BWV and Dec 29 for AKL which are both already deep into the holiday season. What are my chances that there will be rooms available and not taken up by people who have a first date of, say, Dec 18 or something like that.

Hi, we own at Animal Kingdom and booked at Bay Lake Towers for last Christmas. We went from Dec 16 until the 27th. We originally planned on staying just until the 23rd but decided to stay for Christmas, I was put on wait list for 23-27 at Bay lake and it came thru!! So I believe anything is possible. It is absolutely beautiful at that time of year!! Good luck to you!!

It's a chance you take since they changed the booking dates from checkout to check in. Everyone was equal at check out date, not so with check in date. So some members "walk" their reservations.

I hope you can get what you want. I have never walked a reservation and have for 5 years gotten a BWV standard studio or 2 bedroom for about 5-6 nights including NYE. I think BWV will be easier than the club level, but if you can't get what you want do wait list as soon as you can. For whatever reason, maybe people walking, December 29 was unavailable for me this year right at 11 months, but it became available very soon after.

Best wishes!

Thanks for the advice and the hope. LOL

It's my half century on this earth next Christmas (it's a drag having a birthday on Christmas when you want to spend it at WDW or a cruise!!) and although I'd love to spend it in the Magic Kingdom, I'll "settle" for Epcot and a meal, hopefully at Le Cellier and a Candlelight Processional.

By the way... what does "walk" the reservation mean?

"walking a reservation" involves calling as early as possible.

if i want dec 25 for 7 nights, i would normally call on jan 25. but since it's a busy period, i could also call on jan 19 and book dec 19 for 7 nights since that is the first day i could call to book dec 25 (as the last night of a 7 night reservation). then i could call back on jan 25 to add the last 6 nights (more or less).

Just for information....I booked Dec. 15-24 in a GV at OKW and a 1 bedroom at AKV for those same dates at my 11 month booking window...no walking required. I think unless you are booking Club level or a very small inventory room there is no need to walk a reservation.

Your chances of getting AKV club level for Dec 29 to Jan 5 if you attempt to reserve exactly 11 months out on Jan 29: close to zero. In fact, even if you attempt to walk the reservation you are likely to have issues. Those who want club level for NYE will be starting the walking process at least two weeks beforehand with the hope they can walk into it.

As to getting BWV Dec 23-26 by reserving on Jan 23, chances are very good except that standard view (other than 1BRs) might disappear for those dates either before trying to reserve on Jan 23 or Dec 23 might disappear very soon after 8 a.m. on Jan 23.

Hmmmm.... something to think about...

AKV Club isn't a necessity but thought it would be nice. Maybe I can have a taste of the club level after New Year's.
