I am the room mother for my son's first grade class and I was inforemed today that the teacher would like a craft for the kids to do while the parents are getting the food set up. I would love to hear any ideas from you out there. Also I have a present for each child and am looking for a creative and fun way to give them out. Thank you!!

Could you maybe have the kids make some sort of picture frame and then take a polaroid (or digital pic) of them to put in it?

my son has brought home a lot of these, and they are my favorite.

Could you pre-bake some ornaments that they can paint??? I have an easy recipe...

4 cups flour
1 cup salt
1.5 cups warm water

Knead together until a nice dough forms. Roll out with a rolling pin and cut with cookie cutters. Bake in the oven @ 275-300F for about an hour or so until they are dried out. (Oh... and be sure to poke a hole in the dough BEFORE baking!LOL!) The kids can decorate with paints, glitter and glue, etc... :)

Micheal's has wooden ornaments that can be colored with markers.

they could make candy cane reindeer by twisting a brown pipecleaner around the top of the candy cane for antlers and adding googly eyes. Or they could make reindeer pins our of puzzle pieces. I don't know how much time you have, but you could make gingerbread houses or decorate sugar cookies. Another fun thing is to fill a brown paper bag with straw/hay and include instructions to put the straw/hay out on christmas eve for the reindeer! They could make Snowman Soup (all it is is hot chocolate): put hot coco mix, mini marshmellows, and a candy cane in a little bag. I have the poem that goes with it if you want. A really quick craft is beaded candy canes. Alternate red and white beads on half of a red pipecleaner, bend it like a candycane, and add a bow. You could have everyone make certificates for taking out the trash or cleaning their room, etc. to give as gifts.
I like the idea of making ornaments, I have made cinnamon ones and they are great because they smell so good!!!!! Hope this helps!!!

Well, would it have to be a craft they would keep? What about having them decorate their own cookies? They make large sugar cookies in the supermarkets around here and we used to just buy that decorator icing and some sprinkles and let them have at it. (I used to work in a daycare and they let the kids do this one year for a party).

Wow! Such creative ideas! I may use some for my own Girl Scout meeting Thursday!!!

I was just going to suggest a word search or matching game, but nevermind!
