Our town decided to have the Annual Christmas Parade tonight. I don't know, I guess I'm just an odd duck because I prefer my Christmas parades a little closer to, oh I don't know, Christmas? Even the weekend of Thanksgiving seems better than 2 weeks before Thanksgiving weekend.

Afterwards everyone can gather in the library parking lot to hear the mayor read "The Night Before Christmas" which is then followed by a laser light show. :santa:

Sounds like your 'Christmas Parade' just got downgraded to a generic 'Holiday Season Parade', if they didn't change the name yet that will probably be the next step. Still, it's a nice way to get out and have fun with your neighbors, I hope you have a nice time.

This WDW sponsored parade runs every year the Saturday BEFORE Thanksgiving down Michigan Avenue in Downtown Chicago. This is like the official kickoff to the Christmas season. I'll admit, it gets me in the mood! I went last year and had a ball!!

Trying to beat the cold weather maybe? I don't know where you are, but there's a local one in upstate NY that if I remember correctly is maybe Thanksgiving weekend? I've never been - always waaaaay too cold! Brrr.. LOL..:goodvibes

I ended up not going. Neither my DH nor my DS11 wanted to go and my next door neighbors weren't going either. I didn't feel like going alone. I guess nobody is in the holiday spirit yet.

I may have to Google this. We're about 2 hours from Chicago. I never heard about it before. It's got to be fun if it's WDW sponsored!

I'm about an hour south of Notre Dame in Indiana. Up until about noon today I was still wearing shorts. I think it's supposed to turn cold soon though. At least that's what one of my friends told me this afternoon.

The two local parades here area next weekend. Then, the big Thanksgiving Day parade on the holiday.

Our town's holiday parade is the day after Thanksgiving but the mall just had the tree lighting last night.

I totally get the reluctance to rush the Christmas season. It does tend to overshadow Thanksgiving which is an important holiday on its own.

But....there are so many Christmas season activities, and only so many days between Thanksgiving and Christmas that unless you do some of them early, you can't do everything your family would like to do. And I am not talking about shopping and buying, I'm talking about actual family Christmas activities- Church pageants, Cantata, going to see the Nutcracker, visiting with different sides of our family, my daughter's ice skating shows and their rehearsals, etc....the list goes on and on. We love Christmas and spreading it out timewise is easier.

Ours is still in December but I wish they would move it up to Thanksgiving (not earlier though). We like to go to the parade in our town and the one in a neigboring town plus we want to go to the one in NOLA. They are all the same day.

NOLA will probably win out. This will be DGD's first year to really be able to enjoy this kind of stuff so looking forward to the season.
