First off, I'm a complete DLR newbie (went back in 1997 with my family and that was it.) We were planning to go in March of 2017, but our niece is getting married in Los Angeles on December 30th, so instead of flying out there twice we are thinking of visiting DLR while we're there for the wedding. I know WDW is crazy busy during that time of year, should I expect the same at DLR? Is it worth it to even go?

Yes, the week between Christmas and New Year is probably the single busiest week at DLR. DL generally reaches capacity levels at least a couple times during that period. I think you can still have a good time, but you have to go expecting huge/capacity-level crowds.

We want this past NY, 12/27-1/1. It is very busy, but surprisingly I didn't find it unbearable. In fact, a couple of mornings the parks seemed kind of deserted. Of course by noon they were packed, but I went in anticipating security lines back to harbor Blvd and packed parks all day. I would recommend going, just be prepared for heavy crowds and bring your patience. And whatever park you want to spend NYE in, get there early and stay in, no guarantees that you'll be able to re-enter.

The wedding is on Friday 12/30, would you recommend we go to DLR before (12/27-29) or after (1/1-3)?

AFTER 1/3 hands down. That is the BUSIEST time at the DL resort. It is a magical time, but if you are not a frequent visitor you will be miserable in my opinion. Likes are long, crowds are high, you will only be able to do a fraction of what you can do other times of the year. Those that go over the holiday know what they are in for, those that are not expecting it are usually frustrated.

I'd say after, especially if you can rope drop on 1/1, as it is often a (little) quieter compared to regular rope drop since people are recovering from NYE.
