Hey guys. I just got the monorail play set to surprise the kids with. I was going to put it around our Disney tree. Well, got it put together, but batteries in the compartment. The monorail audio works, but the monorail will not move. The monorail is extremely hot and smells of burning plastic. Opened the battery compartment and the batteries were almost too hot to handle. They are brand new duracells. Do you guys think I have a defective monorail or am I missing something obvious? TIA!

You can try moving the drive wheels back and forth to see if that frees it up, a new one I recently got would not run and that got it running. Disney's quality control is not working, my new one didn't run and a new one that I am reworking for someone has drive wheels that are badly out of round.
Go gently on the drive wheels, they should not move far and forcing them could strip the gears. If that doesn't do it I would contact Disney to replace it. If it smells of burning plastic I would probably see about getting it replaced anyway.

Just want to be certain no one thinks I am bashing Disney's monorail model. I am not, I have about 10 of them! :) It's just that my first one ran well out of the box and each successive one seems to run worse up to the latest one that wouldn't even run at all without some tweaking. Anyway, it is still a nice model and has great potential as the videos show:
