Hey Everyone- We are leaving in a few days for our annual trek to NYC for the holidays :santa:, and to celebrate my bday. :yay: (I love celebrating my birthday in NY!!)

I  NYC, always have, and wanted to know if you vacation in NYC during the holidays what is your favorite thing to do? :santa:

Mine: Aside from dining in some of the best restaurants on the planet-Mesa Grill is my favorite! I love to walk around and look at the windows of Macy's, all the store fronts of 5th Ave -especially Bergdorf Goodman's- and seeing all the decorations around the city, how people take time out to decorate with the utmost special details. :santa:

Ohhh I love NY!! :cloud9:

Lucky you. I have never been there for Christmas but have been there for two of my recent birthdays. I love the place.

I love going to the Top of the Rock and looking down over the city. So beautiful!!!!

Love chinatown, Balthazar, Bryant park during the holidays. Just the hustle and bustle if fun. Particularly since I don't have to fight the crowds to commute anymore.

Yea, another NY bday girl. :) LOL

NY during Christmas is fun, COLD, but fun! ;)

We went for Christmas a few years ago and fell in love! Our favorite was the snowflakes on 5th Ave that danced to music. It was awesome to see almost everyone in that area stop to enjoy the show...we saw the Rockettes and that was amazing too. Seeing all the decorations in person that you see on the parade was so nice. I can't wait to go back again...the energy in NYC is something else.

I too LOVE NYC!! We just got back and are already planning our return trip. A few of my holiday must do's are:

~Bryant Park Holiday Shops
~Rockettes
~Laser show at Grand Central
~ALL store front windows
~Rockefeller Center (Christmas Tree and Ice Skating)

Have Fun... wish I was going back now!!!!

Visit Santa in Macy's, ice skate in Rockefeller Center, visit the top of the Empire State Building, have hot roasted chestnuts from a street vendor, ride the ferris wheel in Toys R Us in Times Square, hansom cab ride in Central Park, cheesecake at Juniors in Times Square.
There is so much to do, and hardly time to fit it all in. I hope you get to enjoy as much of what the city offers as possible during your trip.

We use to live about 20 minutes outside the city (without traffic)! I always took it for granted that NY was right there. We have been numerous times to see the tree.

Since we moved to SC - I miss NY, and everytime we go back up at Christmas we go into the city and walk around. I really miss going to the Broadway shows!

We're going today, actually! We live very close, but it's still a special treat! We love seeing the tree, of course. Love the Macy's windows.

For those of you who like to ice skate in NYC, you should try Wohlman Rink in Central Park. It's bigger and cheaper than Rockefeller Center (they don't limit the time on the ice) and the view is spectacular. You're surrounded by trees and rising up above them is the skyline of Central Park South. It's one of my favorite spots in the city. Also, skating at Bryant Park (behind the big library on 5th) is free (skate rental costs something).

My favorite Santa to visit in NYC is at a store called ABC (their home store is on Broadway near 19th St). The store is gorgeous to say the least and the Santa they have is so sweet! Yes, I'll be 34 ( ) and will go and sit on Santa's lap for a photo op and to tell him what I want for xmas. LOL (my handsome DH listening of course)
It's a yearly tradition since I was younger...and I am a child at heart. :rotfl:

We live about 3 hrs from the city and every chance we can we scoop up and go. I really love NYC, like really really love! Unfortunately, my ever so handsome and kind DH won't move there, I'm still trying to convince him. So far no luck. LOL :sad1:

The Rockettes were a tradition of mine up till last year. Great show.. love seeing them!

The snowflakes are so magical and GIANT on the buildings. Oh I cannot wait now!!
