My son's idea,,all the Dissers & Christmas "Old Timers" meet at the Fort in August (don't have to worry about being too cold out) EVERYONE decorate their sites with Christmas decor,,on a specific night the children can dress up to go Trick or Treating while singing carols from door to door and we give out Easter candy,,,
well you get the idea. (feel free to elaborate on this)

We can also have the golfcart parades, 4th of July parade that morning, halloween around noon, and the christmas one around sunset.

Sounds like you got a smart kid there.

Frank,

Did you realize that public high school starts in mid-July now?

As in school next year will actually start August 7 and since DD is marching band, the band camp starts about 3-4 weeks before that. So we are on vacation LOCKDOWN after about the 4th of July.

I have been trapped into travelling to Disney whenever the school calendar says I could for SO long (oh sure, when they were little we pulled them out but now they are so tied in to activities like band, etc that they don't DARE want to miss one).

But hey, DD only has two years till she's off to college then Mrs. Bama ED and I will be FREE to come to the Fort during low attendance periods like August, early December, early February, etc. Maybe by then I'll have a new trailer for just the two of us too.

So it's a little too soon for me personally to contemplate something like this now but it won't be for long. And in true redneck fashion, I would like to add another activity - this one comes courtesy of the Flora-Bama, a fine establishment on the beach at the FLA-AL state line (hence the name). They have a Mullet Toss where you stand in Florida, run up to the state line which is etched in the sandy beach, and heave a dead fish (mullet) into Alabama as far as you can. Since you are a fisherman, I think this might appeal to you. Any fish caught in the Fort canals can be thrown for distance and the winner gets a prize. But being the sophisticated Tennessee resident that you are, I'm afraid that you might look down on us Bammers. :(

If it's any consolation, Mrs. Bama ED disapproves of the Mullet Toss and the Flora-Bama establishment as well. She can be mighty high-falutin' some times.

Bama ED

PS - I will admit to having been to the Flora-Bama once. Well, maybe twice... Some memories are fuzzy....:drinking1

And then we can build a catapult - put it out on the pier and shoot those mullet out in the lake - high score for hitting a loaded boat coming in to the dock. What great possibilities

bama_ed,,love the Fish toss:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2 I think we should "toss" in a few live crabs just to shake it up a little.
Yeah, my son didn't wanna leave outta school activities either to go to Disney World,,but try'n to be the grown up, I FORCED him to go and told him "And you'll like it too !!" I made sure to take him to Epcot so I could write it off to his teachers a a Foreign travels experience, :rolleyes2

RVMH,,catapults, what a grand idea ! I think table top catapults would be great at supper time for passing the food around,,"Hey mom, could you pass me the mash'd taters and gravy".

and if'n the taters have too many lumps......out the door on that little catapult and headed to the lake!

My camping club was there this past August and they said, "Never again!" due to the fierce thunderstorms and high heat and humidity. Due to storms, the boats shut down for several hours and folks were forced to find their own way back to the Fort.

Sorry that group didn't have a good experience, but despite our teasing about mullet and catapults, we (I think) agree that there's no better camping spot than the Fort and we have - amongst this group- been there in every kind of weather and crowd condition.

The cluib loved the Fort....just said they would return a different season next time....fair weather campers, eh?

I guess as long as your camping it still counts.
