We are telling DS (9) and DS (5) about our May trip to WDW at Christmas. It'll be considered their major Christmas gift. I want to do something really special for them, though. Anybody have any stories about special ways they surprised their kids with a trip ??

Check (search or post) the Disney Family board. I know that I have seen threads on this subject over there...

We are surprising our kids at Christmast, too (trip is in January). I just bought some books for DD7 (Birnbaum's Disney for Kids by Kids, Hidden Mickeys, and Guide to the Magic for Kids, which I haven't bought yet). With those and some Disney Dollars, I'm hoping that DD7 will figure it out. It will be fun to watch her face the lightbulb goes off. She and DD3 will open their gifts at the same time. For DD3, she will just have the Magic Kingdom Sing-Along DVD and Disney Dollars.

Have a great trip!

Me and my DD(33) are taking her 2 DD's (8&11) to WDW in Feb 08 as their "big" Christmas present this year also.. We ordered the Disney DVD and bought an inexpensive portable DVD player to play it on on Christmas AM. We are driving to FL anyway so player will help keep them entertained on the way. Also my daughter is making Travel Journals for the girls to take with them. She downloaded the pages at themouseforless.com Then she went to the craft and hobby store and got 1" 3 ring binders with the full plastic sleeve on the front of it and Disney character stickers. They turned out really cute!! They will get those on Christmas AM too. Plus some other little Disney stocking stuffers.
AND of course the always required Disney Dollars.

You could order them the maps on disney's site and get the dvd make some popcorn and ask them to sit down for family movie night pop in dvd and there you go after they see dvd have them make there own maps or give them maps or you could wrap ears in box with maps or something

Not sure if this will be helpful, but if you book your trip between now and December 23rd, for 2008, you can get a call from Mickey on Christmas Day.

Maybe this could be a part of how you tell the kids - do something fun and exciting beforehand, and then tell them Mickey is even going to call with the good news. Just an idea :)
