Christmas Gifts for Teens

I have 3 girls, age 16, 14, 12. They already have iPhones (usually getting mom or dad hand me downs) and with that don't really want anything expensive.

This year I am planning a Saran Wrap ball... something like this

http://awesomejelly.com/the-saran-wrap-ball-christmas-party-game-is-a-seriously-good-time/

Adding things cheap like candy, and more expensive like concert tickets. Maybe some cash and other things too. Their tastes are all similar enough for this to work, although I can totally see them bartering with each other in the end. But it will certainly make the Christmas morning fun!

And on subscriptions, they love ipsy. Just got the October one in the mail today!

Anyone who has done the makeup boxes- do you have a recommendation? What was the cost?

We have done Birchbox, Glossbox, Wantables, and Ipsy. We have canx all but Ipsy. My teen girl likes getting her Ipsy every month. Birchbox sends high end samples and you build points to buy the full-size products on their website. I have bought some full-size products from my Birchbox subscription. They send make-up (mostly eyeshadow or lipstick), skin products, and perfumes. I think Birchbox is for women where Ipsy is for teens.

I think Christmas is a great time to plan a summer camp or summer trip for a teen. Mine is okay with me registering for summer camp and that being part of her Christmas.

If anyone here has a dd who is a big Harry Potter fan and into make-up they have Harry Potter make-up brushes at Storybook Cosmetics for pre-order. They are pricey- $60. I caved and pre-ordered them for my dd, I know she will absolutely love them.

Our Walmart had some of them marked down (I don't think the shelf tag reflected the price but upon scanning they were maybe $3). Star Wars and Marvel were full price but a bunch of the others were less. I got Nemo and Dory. Sometimes Target has them on sale, so keep an eye there. I don't think they end up in the circular but every few weeks I see an unadvertised sale on the shelf tags over there.

Also, JCPenneys carries them.

I'll read the rest of this thread later! This is awesome. My dd is 14 and so far I have bought a big Lego kit she wants and I'm planning to get her a gift card for the nail salon. The big gift we are giving the kids this year is a trip to NY for Spring Break.

What about tickets to a concert or sporting event?

My DD17 and DS14 are both into vinyl. They got retro record players and some LPs

We were going to buy DS 13 a Raspberry Pi, but he bought it himself with his birthday money. So, now, he's getting a desktop computer.
We have 3 extra monitors (DH's work upgraded to 25", and he snagged 4 19" monitors for free), and a computer tower already; and DH can build a nice gaming computer for about $1000.

At that age, I loved getting jewelry and makeup and stuff for my room. GCs to go out with my friends (places at the mall were always popular).
Just in case your not familiar with the rasp pi, I would suggest that your careful with that. Meaning, there are no real parental controls on it and there is A LOT of not so good stuff that are accessible through that...Just a helpful FYI :)

you get all sorts of stuff. they have a wide variety of bath, body, and stuff for the home. the NBC advent had lots of stuff. dry shampoo, bath bomb, salve, bubble bath, sugar lip scrub, soap, a shirt, hand sanitizer, body butter, hair oil, and perfume. its different every time tho so you never know what you're going to get. https://www.pinterest.com/fortunefreak/ here's an idea of the stuff/themes they have or have had.

My dd would love all of that stuff, epsecially if its all HP themed. I may order it but save it for her birthday which is a couple weeks after Christmas. Thanks so much for posting!

Joining in! Ipsy looks interesting for DD15. I started through some of the questions they ask but wasn't sure how to answer some of them. Maybe her sister can help me. She is also saving for a choir trip to NYC in 2018 so I don't know if she'd like to get some cash (she still likes to receive actual gifts).

DD18 will be heading to college in a year, so I've been trying to think about things for that. She will most likely be in an apartment-style housing with her own bedroom and bathroom. I know of a shower curtain she likes at BB&B. I saw a desk organizer that is totally her style at Gordman's but I didn't pick it up. I think she'll also want/need a new MacBook for college, but not sure if that will be a Christmas thing or not. She would also like something like a Wacom tablet so I'll have to research that. Again, not sure if these are things I should buy without her input!

I do know I need to tone it down from last year, I bought too many things.

My son has a Geek Fuel Subscription and he loves it. It's monthly box of geeky stuff. He usually gets a t-shirt, some kind of figurines, and various stuff that he loves all based on a theme, which changes monthly.
