Christmas gift for first girlfriend

I agree that the clarinet necklace is perfect.

(says a former clarinet/colorguard member married to the baritone player she was "just friends" with :rotfl: )

HS girls want something they can show off...while I would avoid rings, a simple necklace is just fine. Even if the relationship doesn't last she will always think fondly of her time as a clarinet player and her guy friend from band.

I am one that does not like jewlery, only wear my wedding ring because I should. Unless he knows she likes to wear necklaces, then I wouldnt get it.

But...since he knows she is going to WDW, maybe a Disney shirt, bag, giftcard, picture frame, etc.

I also like the idea of an event ticket, but of course there has to be a local event, such as a live show, concert, etc.

And the movie basket would be good too. A gift card to the movie store, popcorn bucket, pizza certificate, movie theatre candy, etc.

GL, my DS is 14 and no actual GF he does have a female friend, who is dating his good friend, so she is just a friend. She LOVES jewlery and DS and another friend went in to a simple necklace for her. I approved of it and they gave it to her yesterday, she loves it!

I like the music necklace! My first boyfriend gave me a silver necklace with my first initial on it. I still have it. It was personal but not "sappy." I think the music necklace would be perfect. As a music/drama geek, I would have loved it.

I understand why so many people say "No jewelry," but I think a necklace expressing an interest would be lovely.

He is in a band and she had been to his gigs and has their CD.
He already has made her a few mixed CDs.

They are both in Marching Band together, although the season is over. Would a necklace from Music & Arts with a clarinet on it be appropriate?

A link to Disney.....band is going there in March. My son will not be going, but she is going as a gift from her grandma. I think that might open up some more ideas?

I have a musical daughter and this is what her brother bought her. Very appropiate for a first GF I think and in his price range,

UPDATE.......it turned out sooooo easy :thumbsup2

I work PT at Old Navy and girlfriend and sister stopped by to look around. Well, as my 13DD has told me GF loves anything Cheetah print. So she walks into store and immediately spots the Cheetah print ugg like boots. They are marked $34.94, on sale for $25. She really would like them for Christmas. She & sis leave, only to come back a short time later to show her parents the boots. I give them the F&F 30% discount but tell them it doesn't start for 2 more days. She tried on to know what size so mom can come back and get later on.
I ask her parents & sis if it would be okay if my DS gets them for her for Christmas. They are thrilled. Like us things are very tight, and they would not have to worry about getting them for her.

So I check price because 2 signs are up for many styles. Turns out they just got marked to clearance to $16.49......less my 30% F&F discount they were $11.15:cool1: I was also able to purchase her a Cheetah print blanket for $5 less 30%. So she will have favorite boots to wear and show off at school to friends and then blanket for home to be cozy. And all were parent approved!!!
DS was so happy and grateful that everything worked out. I even popped my head in Michael's crafts for the first time in yr and found Cheetah print ribbon in pkgs pre-cut and folded to turn into quick bows.....on clearance for 49cents.

To top it all off, as the manager was marking additional items to clearance they had found one pair of Cheetah print flats marked down to $4.47...less 30% = $3.13 plus tax. Those will be from my girls to GF because my girls look up to her and love her, know she likes Cheetah and wanted to get her a little something.

In the end everyone is happy to be giving.
Perfect ending;)

Thank you very much for all the wonderful ideas. I will def keep the ideas tucked away for furture girl friend gifts, as I currently have 3 boys.....15, 16 and 17 yrs old.

**BTW just found out that 4th gr boy who is DD9's classmate and best bud got her a "ring" for Christmas with her birthstone (off the $2 table at school PTO's Santa's Secret Workshop). She does not know yet, now to find a small gift for him. He is much easier....anything baseball or football!!

Not to rain on the parade but I hope your DS was more involved in this than it sounds like he was. The girl would likely be hurt if she knew his mom picked everything out.

I agree with Mrsklamc. Can your son go pick out something inexpensive just from him? I could tell the difference between what a BF picked out for me and what his mom picked out for me. Maybe a pair of $5 earrings from Walmart, or one of those inexpensive Christmas gift sets with a necklace and earrings? Or a favorite junk food? I'm glad you helped, but it seems like you picked out the present instead of him.

Aside from the items he purchased, he is making her a CD and was able to get movie tickets...so they are going to have an official "first date". He is really excited and looking forward to that.

BTW, they are both so down to earth, not high maintenance at all.....just happy to be able to spend time together.
Knock on wood, for a first girlfriend I think things are going very well and all parents and kids are happy:thumbsup2

BTW he picked ou a really sweet Hallmark card:)

Sounds perfect! Glad you were able to get some things you know she wants and he was able to do something personal at the same time. My college boyfriend's mom picked out several of the gifts he gave me while we dated. They were never my taste (gold costume jewelry when I only wore silver, clothes from stores she shopped in and i didn't, etc) and it felt like he didnt care enough to bother (which he actually didn't) so I'm glad your ds isn't doing that!

Sounds like you guys were able to get her several awesome things! She will be surprised to get those boots. :)
