Christmas eve or Christmas morning

When I was growing up we opened all the presents from family on Christmas Eve, and the presents from Santa would be Christmas morning (my parents were divorced, and we spent x-mas Eve and day until noon with my mom, then off to my dad's, which is why we did it this way.) I've kept the tradition and my kids open presents from us and family on Christmas Eve, and then presents from Santa and stockings on x-mas morning.

When dh was a kid, they opened everything (even stuff from Santa) on Christmas Eve. They had a tradition that his mom would take them for a walk on the beach in the early evening, and Santa would come while they were walking. My MIL was German/Swiss, and perhaps Christmas Eve gift opening is a tradition in Germany or Switzerland??

.

In my family we open gifts on Christmas Eve. Both my parents are from Europe (Germany and Austria) that is their tradition. Santa comes while we are in church. I have continued this tradition with my kids.

When I was a kid, Christmas Eve was for opening all the gifts from parents and relatives (these were the big gifts), and Christmas Day was for Santa gifts (smaller stocking stuffer type stuff). I guess my parents figured they worked hard to provide us with the big presents and wanted us to know and appreciate where they really came from.

My husband's family does Christmas on Christmas eve... so we all open presents from the family on Christmas Eve.

We allow the kids to have 1 present from us on Christmas eve just before bed when we go home from the family festivities, but the majority of our presents and all the SANTA presents are opened on Christmas.
