Christmas eve or Christmas morning

Growing up, Christmas morning.

However, with DH's family obligations our schedule looks like this

Dec 21st - my birthday, no Christmas but I get presents

Dec 22nd - DH and I celebrate our Christmas at home, open gifts from my parents

Dec 23rd - travel day, no Christmas

Dec 24th - brunch - Christmas with MIL, FIL, SIL, BIL
- afternoon/evening @ DH's Grammy's with extended family.

Dec 25th - DH's Grandpa's House with extended family

Some years it works out that I'm opening gifts every day for a week, based on when people's packages arrive. My parents are notoriously late some years, and I don't get them until after the 25th.

Christmas Morning is when they open the Santa presents and the ones from us.

The kids open 2 gifts on Christmas Eve and they are the same evey year, a pair of PJs and a new ornament. All other gifts are opened Christmas Day.

Christmas Day technically, at midnight. I had a job where I had to work early Christmas day, so we bumped it up, then I take DD to see her DF.

Growing up we always opened on Christmas Eve. DH's family did midnight Mass and then opened in the wee hours.

Together we created our own version: we open gifts from us on Christmas Eve and Santa gifts and stockings in the morning.

We tried opening everything on Christmas morning, once, and it just didn't feel right to us. I guess it's what you are used to.

My Mom's extended family - Christmas Eve lunch, then gifts

My "immediate" family - my parents, siblings, etc - Christmas Eve afternoon

Then, we high-tail it outta there to get 70 miles down the road for:

DH's Dad's extended family - Christmas Eve supper, then gifts

Christmas morning - Santa, then breakfast, then family gifts

DH's Mom's extended family -Christmas Day lunch, then gifts

my extended family - Christmas Day supper, then gifts

DH's immediate family - either Christmas Eve after the big family thing or Christmas Day in the afternoon. Depends on when DH's brother, his wife and their kids can get there.

One year when DD14 was about 3 or 4, I was fussing at her for her room being messy with so many toys. She looked at me with wide eyes and said, "But Mom! It's not my fault! I had 7 Christmases!"

Sometimes we can move the stuff with my family to the 21st and the 23rd, which makes it nice not to have all that food and all those gifts compressed into a 48 hour period, but it's not working out to do that this year.

But my Mom's family used to do Christmas Eve for supper too, and the year we ate dinner with them at 5pm, then drove 70 miles to eat dinner with DH's family at 7pm, with a *4 month old* was the LAST time that happened. That was awful!

I still wish we weren't having Christmas dinner 4 times in 2 days, but such is life. LOL. At least DH and I are both off work! :thumbsup2

We open one Christmas Eve, and it is always new pajamas. The rest are opened Christmas morning.

My side of the family and between DH and I on Christmas Eve
Santa gifts and stockings for kids Christmas Day morning
DH's side Christmas day

We do the PJs Christmas Eve and the gifts from mommy and daddy. Then Christmas AM its all Santa

When do they open gifts?

Xmas eve we exchange with extended family (I do the whole italian fish thing...its a LONG night!)
Xmas morning...we exchange within our family....sipping hot cocoa ...and in pj's now thats what I like BEST! :dance3:

BOTH!
We go to grandmas house on Christmas eve, eat dinner, open gifts then go look at lights. Christmas day we open gifts at the home and then pack them all into the car to go show to Grandma. Oh and usally somewere in there we unwrap all the stuff in our stockings.

When the boys were young they always got to open one gift on Christmas Eve. The rest in the morning.

Now it's all morning. :santa:

One on Christmas Eve, the rest Christmas morning! :goodvibes

Santa Christmas morning and the rest Christmas NIGHT....after dinner with a break for dessert 1/2 way through.
