Christmas dinner desserts

Staples at Christmas are.......

cookies that we all make for our annual cookie swap held the weekend before Christmas - we end up with 12 varieties of cookies this way and only have to make 1 type :thumbsup2

Chocolate puddin pie in a grocery store bought graham cracker crust - this is for DH & the kids as I am not a fan of chocolate puddin or chocolate for that matter. He also prefers the graham cracker crust vs. a pie dough crust so easier for me.

Cheesecake - plain with fresh fruit served on the side if you wish to top it.

And I'm debating several quick have around goodies - peanut butter fudge, turtles, chocolate dipped pretzels, chocolate covered cherries (those are already made), more "candy" type things vs. desserts.

A gingerbread and pumpkin mousse tart. It is gingerbread cake on the bottom topped with a mousse made of cool whip, butterscotch pudding, pumpkin and pumpkin pie spice and decorated with a bit more cool whip.

It is yummy and there is never any left over.

that sounds amazing! I can never fix anything pumpkin, my husband and his whole family won't eat it so it would leave me to eat the entire thing myself. I love pumpkin so it makes me sad.

I'm not a fan of pudding. I'm not a pie fan either. I make a Jewish Apple Cake for Christmas.

Since we are having breakfast for Christmas, we won't have many deserts. The only one that I am bringing is what my family has always called "pink stuff". It's Cool Whip, 1 can of cherry pie filling, 1 can of sweetened condensed, 1 small can of drained crushed pinapples, and then chopped walnuts (nuts are optional). We have it at every holiday, and it's just not the same without it.

Do you have the exact recipe for this? It sounds good!!!

LOL, my sister and I laughed that we had planned no dessert thus far. Neither of us needs more sweets so we had just ignored the issue. I'm making some banana bread and taking a tray of cookies I made. That should be enough.

What is wrong with you? How can you not like puddin and pie:rotfl2:

But I will swing over for some apple cake.

Panetone bread pudding with cinnamon syrup and ice cream and cookies. I'm wondering if this is enough.

Not exact, but that's the basic recipe. I usually get the big tub of Cool Whip. I have only seen the cherry pie filling and sweatened condensed milk in one size can, so I just buy those. The crushed pineapple can is a thin can, kind of like a can of tuna. It is very important you drain it as much as you can. Then if you add nuts, you just finely chop them and add as much or as little as you like. Really it's just a dump into a bowl and mix kind of thing. Of course with the Cook Whip any leftover will have to be put in the frig.

I made two chocolate puddin pies last night. One will not make it to Christmas dinner!! ;) Ummmmmmmmmmmm

I usually make a batch of Oreo Truffles for Christmas (big thanks to Papa Duece for introducing me to them a couple of years ago :) - my family has said I now have to bring Oreo Truffles to every family gathering for ever! :lmao: )

However, this year, I'm just exhausted and not up to making them. My solution? I'm going to attempt an Oreo Truffle Pie. I have a couple of Oreo cookie pie crusts and I'm going to pour melted milk chocolate in the bottom, chill, then add the usual truffle filling, then pour melted white chocolate on top and drizzle with more milk chocolate and chill some more. Hopefully, it turns out ok. :teeth:

I have to know how this turns out. I made 11 batches of Oreo truffles with a friend to give out as teachers' gifts. I didn't have it in me to make more for my family. This sounds like a great solution.

I made two buttermilk coconut pies and a Bannafee (sp) pie last night. Those are my family's favorites. DH and sons love homemade apple pie, his mother always makes it for Christmas. I just talked to her and she doesn't have time this year. So today I will be making apple pie. I don't know who would pout more if I don't, DH or my boys.
