Are there any Christmas decorations still up during Marathon weekend? We usually go the parks the week before Christmas but since we are doing the marathon we have to wait a couple extra weeks this year.

We've only been during Marathon Weekend once and yes, the decorations were still up AND they were still running Osborne Lights.

However, this was in 2010 when they had a tremendous cold snap and didn't have any workers working overnight in the cold temps to take everything down.

We'll be down for Marathon Weekend in January as well but I'm not holding my breath that decorations will still be up. The temps haven't been that cold. If they are, well, it's an extra bonus! :cheer2:

Osborne Lights last night is Jan 6. The Castle Lights at MK last night is Jan 8. My guess if everything will be down by then. Things go down very quickly, like overnight after Christmas.

In the typical year all that is Christmas is gone by Marathon weekend. In a rare year like supercold 2010 decorations were actually up until mid-Jan. Also, if Marathon weekend is at its earliest (it is usually the second weekend in Jan and thus you need Jan 1 on a weekend day to have it early), there may sometimes still be decorations up in the parks.

In January of 2011 everything was still up at Magic Kingdom just before the Marathon I think we went on Friday - we were quite surprised !

Several years ago, my last day at WDW was Marathon Sunday. All the decorations were still up at POR. I asked one of the CMs about the decoration schedule, and she said that they take things down when they get "round tuit". It seems that the parks have a firmer schedule (we went to Epcot on January 5th that year, and found everything down and everything was "put back" to normal-no bare spots. However, the resorts don't seem to have as firm a schedule and sometimes things of higher priority happen there.

Thank You! I knew about the Osborne Lights but hadn't yet heard about the Castle Lights. We are staying at BLT Jan 7-9 and this is perfect!

So Happy!!

We've been at marathons where the Lights of Winter were still up in Epcot for the race. And we've been at marathons where all the decorations were gone. For the first marathon weekend we attended, the decorations were up at WL on Sunday night (the night after the race in the morning) and when we got up Monday morning, everything was gone at the WL.

My experience has been that most things were indeed still up for the marathon weekend; i've been there 5 of the last 7 years. This year (2012) the dancing lights were supposed to be over, but they ran until Saturday night. I was thrilled to get to see them. Then Sunday night was the last night of the castle lights and the holiday edition of The Magic, the Memories and You. DD and I had a rather late Magical Express arrival the Friday night before the race, and they were taking down the decs at POFQ at like 11:00 P.M.

Best advice: cross your fingers.

We were there with friends in 2010 at AKL Jambo. Yes, it was very cold for WDW (at or below freezing during the day). We were wondering while we were there why the decorations weren't coming down. Anyway, the decorations @ AKL came down our last night at the resort. We saw the 18 wheeler pull up and the crew start taking the tree and bunting down. It was kinda sad to see that actually happen.
