this will be our first time in florida at christmas, been a few times before but never on christmas day.Husband not keen to eat christmas dinner out.Has anyone cooked or bought in foods to do themselves. We are staying at vista cay and i believe there is a publix close by.The most ive ever done before in a condo was heat up a pizza in the microwave.Dont know if this is going to be an option staying in for christmas day, plan was just to have a lazy day swim dvds tv etc with lots of yummy food.Interested if anyone out there has done the same.

Welcome to the UK DIS Boards Tracie :yay:

Can't really help with your meal plans; we were in WDW during Christmas 2005 and spent Christmas Day in Epcot. We had a great day and had Christmas dinner at Le Cellier in Canada :)

I'm sure that you will be able to get any foods you need to cook a great meal depending on what cooking facilities you have :)

Personally, on vacation I wouldn't like to be slaving away on Christmas Day cooking :) You could get loads of snack type foods and spend a lazy day by the pool and nibbling away at the snacks, then go out for a nice meal in the evening :)

Hi Tracie, and welcome to the dis, can"t help with cooking but like you we will as be there christmas day.No plans on cooking we have ressies for BlueZoo.

Hi Tracie - welcom to the boards
We are flying out on Christmas Day so we are planning to have dinner the week after, we will probably cook it ourselves though in the villa. There is 6 of us (adults) and 2 kids so I guess we will all chip in. I think we might cheat though and get a ready cooked chicken from Walmart! :)

We were there in Xmas 05 and we bought a Christmas box from publix. It included a turkey, gravey, mashed potatos and two side dishes of your choice. The Turkey was pre cooked and in a roasting bag, so all you had to do was put it in the oven for an hour. The price was about $40, but it was all made there and ready for us to pick up on Christmas eve. It was the easiest Christmas meal I have ever eaten. However this year we have decided to have that meal on Christmas eve, as staying in on Christmas day was a bit of a let down. It is not the same, so we are eating out that day.

If you have the kitchen facilities, you can get pretty much everything you need for a traditional xmas feast. We tend to be in Orlando every other xmas, and always have a big meal on the 25th.

like the sound of the turkey box from publix with all trimmings. i think we have good cooking facilities so we may eat in and watch tv,swim etc.why was not the same staying in?we like the thought of a rest day from the parks and just chilling out for a day.

We have been to WWD every Christmas for about the last 10 years - you will have a wonderful time :santa:

12 of us shared a villa last year and we had a chilled out Christmas Day there. There was an artifical tree inthe louge and we decorated that and put all the Christmas stockings and presents around it on Christmas Eve. We went to the local supermarket and bought veg, cranberry, made our own stuffing with sausage meat, breadcrumbs and sage. We were going to cook our own turkey until one of the staff told us that they were open on Christmas Day and would be roasting the chickens and pork as normal, so we sent the guys down on Christmas morning to buy our chicken and turkey and cooked everything else. It was gorgeous!

We spent the rest of the day having a family tournament in the games room at the villa :grouphug:

Roll on Christmas Day, 8 weeks today and we should just about be boarding the aircraft at Gatwick - can't wait :cool1:

just what i needed to hear.Husband and daughter very reluctant to go to parks on christmas day and i would like to make a great dinner in our condo.I think the parks can get very busy on christmas day as well.We look forward to enjoying our lovely accommodation and chilling out.

In my opinion i would eat out in a nice hotel, it is very cheap and the food is great and you will not be tied up in a kitchen...we ate at the Hyatt Grand Cypress on Xmas day, think it was $40 each and food was fantastic.
