Christmas Day Dinner..

Christmas Eve is a fancy feast for family at my MiL's house (obout 4 miles away).

Christmas day is an all day bash, with the party really starting to rock at about 4PM at our house (about 60 guests). Most will stay the night, as we drink way too many bottles of (everything) and no one is safe to drive. The morning after is usually a treat. :rotfl2:

Everyone's plans/traditions sound like such fun!! :grouphug:

No big C'mas dinner for us! As I said on other thread, after TG we're all turkey'd out ~ C'mas baked and shopped out too. Hense C'mas day is a laid back enjoyable type day with lots of left overs and each family enjoying their special time together and their loot, or perhaps visiting IL's. :)

This year with all the kids and grands being home we'll be hosting 20-25'ish at our place. C'mas eve after church, we'll have an easy buffet style: pot of BBQ, meat balls, asst. finger foods, pot salad, slaw, deviled eggs, pineapple cheese ball, and the kids always bring lots of their tasty contributions. :goodvibes

Our out of state kids and families will be staying with us, so this year luckily we will get to spend C'mas day wth them. At some point we'll go visit my Mom and have some of her yummy stuffed ham and she'll love and enjoy making over her great-grands. :lovestruc

New Year's eve and day is a mixed bag, none of us are big partiers or drinkers anymore. We all might meet up for dinner and movie out, or one of our kids may host dinner and movies/play games in. Thankfully we don't have a lot of drama and simply enjoy going with the flow.... makes life so much more enjoyable.

I'm loving everyone's posts. It's making me (almost) wish we were staying home for Christmas. After reading all these, I think I'm going to miss being with the families this year. But I have years of tradition to look forward to, traditions past and new ones to create as I have children. Oh geez I'm getting all weepy! I love Christmas!

Lets see I am not home for Christmas at all. I go someone house for a early Christmas Lunch. Then go to my other cousins house in the evening then the party starts then. The first house is so boring that put the kids to sleep. The second house now kids bounce off the walls and running crazy. The poor kids want get play with there toys day after Christmas.

Okay it might change this year now we might stay home. They is calling for snow Saturday that is enough to shut down the city.

Christmas Eve tradition here is sandwiches from Subway or another sub place, chips, salad.
DD won't let us ever change it. She is so traditional :rotfl:

 I know what you mean. Our DD17 is like that--if you ever did it once, it's a "tradition." For that reason, we always have a low country boil on Christmas Eve. That's potatoes, corn on the cob, and shrimp boiled in the same pot. Easy-peasy. Christmas Day is always baked ham, plus sides. This year we are particularly challenged so I'm changing it up. We're going to have the ham, some canned veggies, some turkey I froze at Thanksgiving, and a pie, if they're lucky. That's about the best i can do. :goodvibes

Christmas Eve with the inlaws.
Chicken and sausage gumbo
potato salad
desserts

Christmas Day with my family.
2 turkeys
3 dressings
green beans
corn
salad
cranberries
carrot cake
snowman coconut cake
I might make a potato casserole but I haven't decided.

Hubby and i are both from Northern European Catholic families-we always have clam chowder on Christmas eve-its funny because the tradition in both families before my Mom and MIL was oyster stew but neither of them like oysters so they changed to clam chowder-and that has carried forward to our children. After Mass-usually about 2 am we may have a light dessert. Chirstmas day we have a sweet with coffee for breakfast if we are at my moms-eggs benedict if at the IL's ( we have to travel about 10 hours home). Christmas dinner is always Prime Rib, twice baked potato's, a fresh veg, a salad and a nice dessert.
This year for the first time in many we are not going home-our 21 year old has his tonsils out on Thursday-doc said no road trips-because of the complications -they were very very large and infected. And our Oldest who lives in Michigan cant afford to fly home this year.So its gonna be hubby and me and the kid on liquids. We will do the chowder and the Prime rib and sides but i may just get Rhodes cinammon rolls.

On Christmas Eve, it's just me, DH, & kids, so I've let them pick out something special to have. A couple of years ago it was steak, last year - Shrimp Fettucine Alfredo. This year - fried pork chops with brown flour gravy (per my daughters request - we've been dieting so she never gets this). On Christmas Day, we get together with my family at my DMs, where we always have way too many appetizers/chips/dips/chains/whips/finger foods/candy/cookies/etc..

Love reading all these traditions!! My DH is Italian so they do the big fish dinner on Christmas eve. I bring yummy apps and fill up on them b/c I don't like seafood.Christmas Day is with my family. Used to be a small crowd until my brother got married and now his in-laws are with us. It's a lot of people and a lot of fun. We do a big buffet of lots of different food and yummy deserts.

OT, but did you see my compliments on the cookie thread regarding your snowman cookie? You put me to shame! Great job!! :thumbsup2

Heehee, I did! I replied back! Thank you!!!

The tradition in our family is fondue for Christmas Eve (breaded cheese cubes, steak in oil). For Christmas Day, we're having cornish hens.
