I know this has been discussed a lot here but I never really opened them because we normally go my inlaws however I have decided that I want to make Christmas dinner . So, HELP ME!!! What do you normally make?

I was thinking maybe a ham and lasagna, which would be great but I have never made a ham :rolleyes1

Any other ideas??

A ham is EASY to make, if you know how to do it!!

What I do is Wal-mart sales this pre-cooked very large ham for about $45. I then buy those Oven Roast bags. I put the ham in the bag and do a big can of cream of mushroom soup over the top of it and then a can full of water. You can use any seasoning that you like (Pineapple, onions, carrots, etc what ever to taste). I then close the bag up with its tie and make sure the opening is wrapped under the ham and place it in an oven pan. I put it on 375 for 2 hours.

It goes fast around here.

Do you have Honey Baked or Heavenly Ham near you? Those are awesome and that's what we usually have for xmas dinner.

We usually have either a turkey or ham...and I usually go with stuffed shells because IMO they are a little easier than lasagna (easier to make, serve, and store leftovers).

Prime rib, au jus, whipped potatoes, baby peas, home made rolls.

We have turkey at Thanksgiving, prime rib for Christmas and ham for Easter. We don't like deviate. :teeth:

Yes. It's foil wrapped and you just warm it up. It's easy as can be.

Last Christmas Eve I did a small prime rib with garlic mashed potatoes. It was soooooooo easy, just stuck the oven temperature probe in it and set the desired internal temp. Oven cut off when it was done, super easy.

Honeybaked hams are always a good choice, but can be a bit pricey and large. During the holidays our local Publix carries the whole Boars Head brand sweet slice ham at a decent price per pound. I'll buy a small one of those and pop it in the oven, after scoring the top of it. I simply follow the directions that are on the package. I also purchase a brown sugar mustard glaze that it put out by Boars Head. I cover the ham before baking it, then about 15 minutes before it's done I reglaze. It tastes great, and costs less than the Honeybaked ones.

Good luck, I'm sure whatever you do will turn out fine. One word of advice though:

Our first Easter Sunday as a true "family" (our daughter was 9 months old so we had the Easter Bunny thing going on for the first time), I cooked a Hormel Cure 81 ham. I took it out of the wrapper, washed it off and scored the top in a pretty diamond pattern. Popped it in the oven with a homemade brown sugar pineapple glaze with pineapple slices and cherries. Imagine my horror when I tok it out of the oven and discovered it had been covered in ANOTHER PIECE OF PLASTIC, WHICH WAS NOW CURLED UP ALL OVER MY HAM! We peeled it off and ate it, but I have yet to live that down. :)

We usually make ham for Christmas dinner. I buy the Cooks brand pre-cooked spiral-cut honey ham and make the glaze from the enclosed packet. No problem.

I like to make scalloped potatoes to go with the ham. Add a bread, salad, vegetable, and desert and you've got a feast!

usually a prime rib or a fresh ham. LOVE Fresh Ham.

I would just like to offer a word of warning from my family. If you have a desert as well, make sure that it in no way resembles your ham. One year on Easter, my Grannie had a large ham, covered in foil, and a strawberry shortcake that she had layered with lots of strawberries and whipped cream, also covered in foil with tall toothpicks to keep the foil from touching it. She asked my Papa to put the ham in the oven before they left for church (she was getting ready). Imagine all of our surprise when we arrived at their house after church and it didn't smell like ham....yep...he baked the strawberry shortcake. It had cooked down until it was only about 3/4 of an inch thick (it had started out closer to 4 inches tall).

My Papa still hasn't lived it down!

I've had Christmas dinner at my house for quite a few years now. We always have roast beef and my mom makes her homemade noodles. We also have green bean casserole, cottege cheese salad, apple salad, mashed potatoes, gravy, and I usually try some kind of new dish. We'll have cookies, candy and pies for dessert. Usually I make a kahula cake too. We have Grandma's recipe which is apple cider, secret spices ;) and rum.

This year we're also having my DH's family here for Christmas Eve. We'll probably have ham....I think. Haven't decided yet.
