Christmas Day at MK? EEH? Other tips?

Hi! I am surprising the kids on Christmas morning with a Disney cruise that leaves Dec 26th from Port Canaveral. We are mostly trying to make the holiday special and different for our girls as my husband/their dad passed away in July from cancer and I know the day is going to be hard for all of us.

After they unwrap all of the ”clues” and figure it out, we are hopping in the car and driving to Disney World (a little under 4 hour drive from my parents’ house, where we will be). I’d anticipate us arriving around 2pm. We’d like to visit MK when we arrive, as it will be our only day in the parks. I understand it will be insane but we are aiming for a sort of go-with-the-flow attitude (very different from my usual very scripted, filled-to-the-brim Disney trips!). See the decorations, hopefully catch the parade, view the fireworks, ride whatever rides we can, etc. We have a park reservation for MK that day (no hopper) so I’m hoping we will be able to get in even arriving later in the day.

I know the “official” hours for Dec 25th aren’t posted yet, but does anyone have an idea of what they might be? Is there any possibility that they would have EEH at MK that night? Since it’s our only day there, we want to stay as long as possible and sleep in the next day before heading to the port.

We won’t be in our hotel for long to enjoy the amenities, but if there are EEH for Deluxe hotels it’s worth it to me to book one. On our last trip, we had SO much fun at MK EEH that it was truly the highlight of our trip. I currently have Wilderness Lodge booked but it is NOT cheap 😂 so I need to justify it somehow (the perk of the boat to/from MK is huge for me, as are the gorgeous Christmas decorations there, but without the EEH…).

I’d appreciate any insight you can offer. I’ve researched all that I can on these forums and elsewhere, but it’s hard to get many answers other than “it’s insanely crowded.” I am aware, but our goal here isn’t to ride all of the big attractions and stress about genie+, ADRs, etc. I just want to make it special and exciting for them on a day that will otherwise be very difficult. Thank you!

Sincere condolences for your loss - sorry that all I can help with is this - MK was open to all guests until 11PM last Christmas, no DEEH. I suspect it will be the same this year but of course can’t promise. :tink: :tink: :tink: :tink: :tink: Best wishes for a fabulous visit and cruise!

Thank you! I appreciate the condolences and the information about last year’s hours :)

Sorry fir the loss of your husband.

I would not plan on Disney adding EEH on Dec 25th. They may extend hours but that would be for all guests.

I think the justification for WL is, after driving 4 hours, you won't have to hop on a bus and wait in traffic to get back and forth to MK. It will be much easier to access MK from WL. And WL is gorgeous during the holidays.

I know you know it will be insanely crowded. If it gets too much, touring the monorail resorts is also really fun and the decorations are gorgeous. We were at MK on 12/26 one year and we could barely walk through the park. Lines for rides like BTMRR were 3 - 4 hours long. We bailed about 3 hours in and had a much more relaxing day touring the resorts. We really enjoy alternative activities on the crowded holiday days - thinks like going to HDDR and taking a holiday sleigh ride through Ft. W after the show.

My condolences to you and your family. I hope the lovely plans you have made to spend the holidays brings some comfort to you and that you enjoy your trip.

Hi,

I have no advice - never having been to WDW during the holidays - but I have been reading holiday-related posts because we are planning on our own post-Christmas/New Year's trip. Our trip is also to give myself and my teens a fun and different holiday following their dad's/my husband's unexpected death in November of last year. (I'm a nurse so I have to work actual Christmas, so we're going 12/28-1/4.) I just wanted to say that I'm sorry for your loss and I hear you - it's hard work being the sole parent now and I am so glad you can plan a trip too. I hope it's as wonderful as it can be for you and your kids.

Ellen
