Christmas Cruising 2005

I just got a scolding from a mod! My first ever! :rotfl2: Seems he/she has a problem with my siggie:

DISboard Member:

It has been noted that your DISboard signature does not meet DISboard signature guidelines. Please correct your signature as soon as possible. For reference, the Signature Guidelines are shown further below.

Your signature does not meet guidelines for the following reasons:

Images have too much combined filesize at 68K.(see #4 below)
You have 21 lines in your signature (max allowed is 12) (see #5)
Link does not meet guidelines (see #6)

Failure to correct your signature will result in your signature being removed and replaced by a notice stating "User's Signature removed for failure to meet DISboard Signature guidelines"

Thank you for your cooperation.

DISboard Signature Guidelines

1. Maximum of 3 images allowed
A User may have a maximum of THREE Images in their signature. An image consists of any photo, clipart, or countdown. DISboard Smilies do not count toward images.

Note that if you have created a 'sparkly' signature, this counts as one of your images. It is not 'TEXT', it is an image. If you link to a smilie at some site other than the DISboard's standard Smilies, that smilie is a clipart and counts as one of your 3-images allowed.

2. Maximum Image Dimension is 550 x 200
No single Image may exceed 550 pixels in width nor 200 pixels in height. You can get information about your image's size from your photo editing software, or by right-clicking on the displayed image and selecting properties. This example is 550x200 pixels in size:

Note: The 550 width is to allow mostly for Countdowns which are longer than they are tall, but you may also use photos to that same dimension if desired.

Generally photos originally taken in a 3:2 format, such as a photo 4" x 6", must be resized to meet the 200 pixel maximum height. Such a photo taken in landscape mode can be resized to 300x200 pixels. A 4" x 6" photo taken in Portrait mode would need to be resized to 133x200 pixels. Actual samples are shown below.

. . . .

Note: Your images MUST be resized before you upload them to your hosting site. Photos can be resized by using a resize feature in your photo editing software. If you are using Windows, your computer also has a program called PAINT (Found under your Accessories Group) which can be used to resize a photo using the photo's attributes and adjusting the Stretch percentages.

3. Maximum Total Width of 550
If placing images side by side, their combined width may not exceed 550 pixels. Note in the sample above, the two side by side photos are no wider than the single 550 width photo.

4. Maximum Total Filesize of 50KB
The total cumulative filesize of all images together may not exceed 50KB (51,200 bytes). You can get the filesize several ways such as looking at the listing on your computer using MyComputer or Explore, using your photo editing software to check filesize, or by right-clicking on the displayed photo or image (such as clipart or countdown) and selecting properties. If you right-click on the above photos and check their properties, you'll see them as follows:

Photo #1: Dimension is 550x200, Filesize (Size) is 47475 bytes.
Photo #2: Dimension is 300x200, Filesize is 24212 bytes.
Photo #3: Dimension is 133x200, Filesize is 19776 bytes.

Note, in this example, when added together all three photos would exceed the 51,200 byte limit. Photo #1 could be used all by itself, or photos #2 and #3 could be used together, but all three could not be used at the same time.

Note: Filesize can be decreased by changing the resolution of the image. To change resolution requires special features which can be found in many (but not all) photo editing software.

Don't forget, if you also have any countdowns or clipart, sparkly signatures, etc., you must include their filesize toward the 50KB total limit. If you have any Animated Images in your signature they can have a large filesize.

5. Maximum of 12 lines in your Signature
Your DISboard signature may have up to 12 lines for display. ALL of the following count as a line:

A. A line of Text
B. A blank line
C. An image of any kind on a line by itself (Photo, Clipart, Countdown, Smilie)
D. Any type of spacer such as a horizontal line.

6. A link in your signature
You may have a link in your signature provided it does not link to a commercial site of any kind, and the site linked to has a prominent return link back to the DISboard.

Links to Photos are allowed as long as only the photo itself is displayed.

Links to Countdown sites are allowed as long as it's the countdown being displayed.

Links to SPAM of any type is strictly prohibited and can result in loss of all posting privileges.

Why are these guidelines important?
Why are these requirements in place you might ask. Good Question. You can find more information in THIS THREAD

Now to figure out what all this means!

Leave it to you Aisling to get yelled at by the DIS. Please don't let them know who the rest of us are..... :rotfl2: like we're hiding here... :rotfl2:
When you figure out all that stuff let me know what I have to change to comply with the DIS gods.

Seems the sloganizer.net is a no-no on the Dis. And my lines were spaced too far apart, taking up too much space. And my siggie box had too many pixies or bands or something I don't know what the heck it means, just that I was told I had to get rid of it, or make it smaller. Ha ha make it smaller? Lemme go take a class on that and I'll get back to you. On second thought, I'll just get rid of it. I want to be a good girl on the Dis because I know SO MANY people who got banned for lamer reasons than this.

Good Morning, all.

I am home sick today. A 48 hour bug. Can't keep anything in, not even sips of water! I hate that. Mental health days are much more fun. Real sick days just stink.

Mom has bursitis and got a shot of cortisone from her 39 year old doctor, who she has been with for 5 years! Man am I getting old or what!

AC was fun. Got a comped room from Dominick's cousin at Bally's. We had a nice view of the ocean. Played in the casino for about an hour. Was down $5.

Had breakfast in the room, check out was at noon. Met Kayla for lunch at the Rainforest. Walked on the beach, picked up a few shells. Went to the Trop and played for a good hour and 1/2. Mom won $17.50 and I lost $15. Dominick had gone to put something in the car. He walked through Cesar's. Put 25 cents into one machine and he won $12.50! PF Chang's wait was longer than we had time for, so I didn't get my lettuce wraps! That was just as exciting as it got, but we had fun.

The concert was amazing. Truly amazing. There were 350 in the choir and 100 in the orchestra. What voices. And the acoustics were awful. Can't wait for the NJPAC performance.

There was one huge drawback to the concert. A man sat in front of me with the hugest flakes of dandruff in his whole head. The seats werethisclose. Well the dandruff just grossed me out. I know some people can't help it, but this was nasty. And if that wasn't enough, he passed gas all night. SBDly's!!!! I would take my program and fan myself to get rid of the order. He certainly had a bean burrito for dinner. I would turn to my mother and whisper 'Oh, for the love of God!' She occasionally caught a wiff and joined in the fanning ritual. It was nasty!

Felt lousy yesterday morning. Got a call from Dom's sister. It seems my MIL fell in the Buena Vista Theater - she didn't want to go to CC and went to see Herbie Fully Loaded instead - She was there alone NO one was in the theater. She noticed her arm was getting bigger and bigger. She went to guest services and they sent her to the infirmary. The ship's doctor wasn't much help, according to my MIL. He wrapped her left arm and leg and told her to see her own physician.

Turns out she has a fractured ankle and wrist, is in a wheelchair with a cast on her arm and leg. But they booked for next year!! My MIL also bought a time share at Disney. I just hope she know who to deed it to in the long run!

Anyway that is all my news. I will have Dominick check the train situation or decide if we are driving!

Karen: OMG, what a weekend. Sorry about the flakey and smelly man. It's such a bummer to have your personal space invaded like that. For some reason I always get the tall person in the movie theater. I go early get a good seat and then have the tall person sit in front of me. (I'm 5' 2", yes eyes of blue too) Very exciting to have your daughter singing in a big place like that. Hope the next show is better. Good luck to MIL and broken bones, ouch.

My dog (the young one that we haven't bonded with in 6 years) is taking to trapping me in the recliner lately. Kinda nice. I sit down and she comes over and lays in front of me so I can't get up unless she moves. I'm not sure its because she loves me, or just because she flopped on that spot, but after 6 years ya think it'd be a little love.

So, it's Monday.......

We had a bummer thing come up at school last week. We have been in a funk about it. Seems that our new principal (highly educated, Stanford, Phd) believes that the Kinders should be stronger in their 1st language before they tackle the 2nd. This is a common arguement in the dual language school of thought, but it really blows out the 50/50 model that we have going. Kids now will go into 1st L for 1 week, then 2nd week 50/50, 3rd week 1st L, 4th week 50/50, and so on, until the kid has met the year end K goals. So of course Wilson is close already, and if we tutored him and rushed thru the process he'd be there in a week or two, but we have felt pretty strongly about the fact that they have school for the next 13+ years (ha, my kids 17-20, yes college is a must in our family) so it is not the time to shove it down on them in Kinder, or even preschool. Since I worked from home, I had a nanny and the kids went to preschool only 2 days a week for 3 hours. They thrived at home and the park and out with me or nanny with activities when they were little. So....the big issues here...Wilson has just started to get comfortable in having Spanish spoken around him for 4 hours a day and to pull him out of that would break the continuity, along with the fact that this will also segregate the english & spanish kids. Wilson mentioned many times this weekend that he is sad that his friend Edwin(who speaks spanish) will now not be in his class. So, time has gone by and I realize that this is a short blip in Wilson's life and he will soon be back in the 50/50 program, but darn it I've gotten my feelings hurt by how the whole thing was approached. Kinda backasswards, not a manitory meeting, but a regular parent meeting, and we choose to see Molly's 3rd grade project on that meeting. So we got the info 2nd and 3rd hand. Anyways the whole thing made me realize that school is tenious, even if it is great for alot of reasons, it can change and suck. So I'm leaning myself towards moving to HMB. That was a long winded story huh? I even dreamed about us finding a house last night.

Well, must now get to the office, I've fiddled enough today.

Aisling: Replace the PPC club in your sigie...we need you!

WOW, I can't believe I did not find thisthread until tonight. Thanks Aisling!!

Of course I have been afraid I would have to miss this trip because of my chemo. I am feeling great right now, having had treatment # 2 on the 2nd. I will have chemo treatment #4 on Dec 14th. Doctors are working with me to make the trip happen.

I have a 6 year old son and my hubby and I are 47 & 53. What do we need to bring, can you give me an idea of what type of clothes to pack (shorts or pants? Short sleeve or long?

I have already purchased a very small tree and we are making our own ornaments to decorate it with. I have a few strands of lights and read elsewhere about some window clings for festivity. I really want this to be a Christmas my 6 year old will always remember.

Any and all suggestions gratefully accpeted.

Thanks a million for all the care and support,
Susan " thymed"

And my daily prayers with you!
I have a 5 year old son, so they should have a wonderful time in the club together!
We cruised last year in late Oct., and I brought tanks/tees plus shorts/capris for day, cocktail dresses for formal nights, and dressy sundresses or top/skirt sets for the other nights. I am struggling for a nice jacket or sweater to take, just in case. Might throw in a long sleeved tee, too. But I always love an excuse to buy what I didn't bring! On Princess I was always exactly the right temp--even on port! (except on Mayan tour in rainforest...warm & humid). It should be in the 80s at St. Maarten & St. Thomas, 70s at Castaway Cay. Some do feel the ship can be cool. I wonder if having cocktails all day long warmed me up....
I am still contemplating decor...I really don't think I will have the room in luggage. After all, Santa has to leave a few small gifts in our room! (Especially things children already need on a cruise, like tees, pjs & swimsuits, all w/ the appropo Disney theme!)
Karen--hope you are feeling better. Noravirus (sp?) is going around in Omaha, and seem to have a lot of kids w/ stomachaches...hope we aren't in for it!
Kids & I did get those flu shots, though! (rats, not that kind of flu)
Nan--we've talked before about the school thing. Kids are resilient. Whatever you decide is best will be. I did ask Marcus if he was interested in an autograph/photo/scrapbook & he said no. Good thing I asked first! He will be perfectly happy playin gameboy on the trip, or visiting w/ cousins.
No workout today, Dan has late meetings. That's OK, I think I am on a roll w/ workouts until the cruise...those dresses WILL fit as well as they did last year! I am only allowing myself to eat what I want on Thanksgiving, otherwise I am watching it until we leave--it's worth it to be able to eat and drink what I want on this cruise!
Well, kids wanna play a family game...I'm off!
Bye! :wave2:
Kris
PS It is supposed to SNOW here tomorrow---1-8"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am NOT ready for this! BUT better now than Dec. 24th! (sure hope we fly American or Continental so connect through Texas!)

Susan, I'm SO happy you're here!
In case you don't feel like reading all the previous threads, I'd like to introduce myself, and I'm sure the others will, too!

I'm 43, soon to be 44. My hubby is 44, but won't be joining us on this cruise, which is our first ever cruise. My son's are quite a bit older than your little prince; Chad just turned 20, and Jesse is 13, great kids. We truly are a caring bunch here, and I feel so blessed to have found this thread more than a year ago.

As far as packing, I'm mostly packing sundresses for myself, just because I usually feel cooler wearing them in hot weather. When we depart from Florida, the weather may be a tad cool, so we'll have sweatshirts in our carry-ons. For dinner, my sons will be wearing khakis and polos, pirate attire on pirate night, and suits on formal and semiformal nights. (Light suits for semi, and dark for formal). I'll be wearing a tea-length cocktail gown. Well, it's supposed to be tea-length, but I'm short, so it'll probably be ankle-length!

Tee shirts, shorts, bathing suits...hmmmI think that's all I'm taking. I was originally going to take tons of shoes, but I've come to my senses! Flip flops are my new best friends! :rotfl:

If you're not feeling well due to the chemo, you can register your little prince in the kid's club, where the so many kids don't even want to leave when mom and dad come for them, it's so much fun! And I'm sure the Dis kids on our cruise will become best pals with your child.

What a wonderful time of year to be cruising! The ship is going to be beautiful, and there are so many festive activities going on, and I heard that Santa is going to make an appearance!

Gee, there's so much info. Have you made any shore excursions? And what dinner seating do you have, early or late?

Please ask all your questions, and I have a feeling , well I know for a fact, that our cruise gang is going to be thrilled to say hello to you and help in any way they can.

This is us, last year at Down Town Disney, the day we were leaving for home. Can you tell we weren't too happy? :rotfl2:

Welcome Susan!!

Aisling, you frequent the Threadkillers thread, you know about the sig police!

If you surf the DIS with a big sig, someone's gonna catch you---and they did :(

Susan, We're decorating our cabin, I was thinking rope lights for the verandah using those suction cup hooks ... and yes, Santa will be visiting our cabin as well.

Check my sig for all my cruise details, I am sort of a coordinator of our little group :)

We are having a swap/gathering the first night of the cruise-you are welcome to join us. In order to participate tho you must contribute. Nan came up with DCL lunch boxes and our job is to fill them with a little something from everybody. Some are doing crafts, some are doing something representative of their part of the world. Phoenix, New York and Nebraska are going that route. You mail me 25 small items for me to throw into the swap boxes and I will be bringing them on the cruise completely filled and ready to swap :teeth: Didja get all that ? :faint:

I will also add you to my prayers and wish you better health in the near future. We will help you to make this the cruise you and all of us are dreaming of this Christmas :grouphug:

Nan, LYMI

Aisling-I'm proud to call you my friend

Karen, My pc's are giving me a hassle with getting that train schedule. I'll check in with you as soon as I actually get to look at it :( :badpc:

Feel better soon and I wish your MIL a quick recovery. Congratulations to Kayla, yet another reason to be proud!

Is your daughter on MySpace or AIM? I pm'd Tori some of our sights but wasn't sure if your Kayla has her own. The kids use these avenues to keep in touch with each other. I liked them so much I joined up on my own :)

Brittany worked at the store tonight, She and my nephew wanted a job and they fit in perfect there. Only six more days til we open...it's coming together very nicely. The boss is stressing - I just keep reassuring him that everything will be fine.

My tie dye? I bought it last year off a fellow DISer.

I had 3 made in a purple hue, 1 for me, 1 for Rose and 1 for my sis. I don't remember the girl's name tho :confused3
