Christmas Crackers?

does anyone know whether Christmas Crackers are allowed on the ship? Not food (haha) but the little pull apart poppers that have the paper crown & trinkets inside? It's one of our traditions but unsure whether they are allowed as they sort of pop, like a cap gun. We'd bring enough for our whole dinning table.

On that note, what is the average number of guests per table? We are a family of 3 and assume we'll be paired with another family.

re: "Crackers" - I have no idea. Probably OK as long as no gunpowder is involved! So any like they have at Hogwarts will not be allowed.

re: table Size - as a family of three, you might get a table to yourselves, or more likely a table for 8. There are tables for 6, but when I've traveled as a group of 3, we have never been at a 6 top.

You are going to want to contact both DCL and the airline you plan to fly in on (assuming you are flying). Poppers use small amounts of explosives and you do not want to pack those unless you get it directly from them that you can bring them. The last thing you want is to be getting questioned by airport security while you swear that someone on the internet told you it was fine ;)

I would suggest not taking them. They are considered explosives and will set off security scanners if your suitcases and/or carry-on bags are swabbed for explosives. Not only will the poppers test positive, everything that is packed near them will also test positive during your return flights.

What about making little "popper" gifts instead? Just put some treats (candy, trinkets, etc.) inside a toilet paper roll, then wrap it leaving about 3" of wrapping paper extending out over each end, then tying the ends with ribbon? They're cute, non-explosive, and would be an inexpensive little gift for everyone. :)

There is another thread where it was posted that they no longer combine tables and that people get to sit alone with their families. Not sure if that was for every cruise or just certain ships.

You can request a table by yourself, but I thought the default was still being seated with others. If a change has been made, it has been very recently.

I can't find the link, but the person that posted had just gotten off one of the ships and said the dining room seating was reconfigured.

EDITED TO ADD: found it -- it was on my own cruise meet thread LOL.

posted by Chirple: Dining Rooms: Parties were seated at their own tables. We only requested a specific server and were surprised when we were led to a 4-top and two settings were removed. We looked around and saw families eating alone. I asked about this and was told that so many families were asking to have their own tables that they reconfigured seating. It did get us out of the dining rooms faster so this could also be a motivating factor.

You wouldn't make them explode IN the dining room, would you? Are they the ones that make the pow! sound when you pull the string? I would not be happy if someone made one of those go off, I would hit the deck...PTSD issues.

If these are the ones with the confetti inside I have to believe they would be frowned upon given the clean up issues in the dining rooms.

So, maybe, those of us who want to share tables will now have to request to be seated with others? I don't like that.

Maybe DCL should adopt what other cruise lines do - as part of the reservation process, ask what size table you want to be seated at: 4, 6, or 8 person table.

I think you are safe from them giving you PTSD issues

They looks great!

I can't imagine DCL has enough tables so that every family gets their own table. We were recently on the Magic and noticed (because I like to people watch) a few tables where people were introducing themselves to their table mates so they were obviously more than one family at the table. This was as recent as the October 7th Magic. If they did change things it is super recent.

I don't know about those crackers but as far as table mates, our family of 3 has always been seated with others. Once with another family of 3, and couple of other times with families of 4.
When I called DCL about something though they asked us if we want sit by ourselves.

Unless you have been exactly where someone else has been and are 100% exactly like them, it's a little unfair to say that that wouldn't give someone PTSD issues... That's kind of like saying to someone with a life-threatening allergy "Oh, that fish won't make you die. I eat it and am fine!"

Be on the safe side, leave them home and enjoy them there! You'll have plenty of excitement on the ship without them.

I agree -- Disney is the only cruise line where requesting a table alone was a problem. On other cruise lines, they have the tables separated and I've seen them put them together for those that want to sit with others. They should just honor your request and have the dining rooms ready for those that want to sit alone, and those that don't.

For goodness sakes! MunFam asked are they the ones that make the pow! sound when you pull the string? and i replied with a video showing that they do not make a pow sound and just a little crack noise that would be barely audible in the crowed mdrs and that i thought it would not cause them any issues with their ptsd. No need to get defensive on someone elses behalf and make weird nonsensical analogies to what i said.
