Hi There! I thought there was a thread with recipes for making homemade candies for the holidays but can't find it.

Anyone have any good recipes they can share?

Wondering if I make chocolate bark, what kind of chocolate do you need to use? Can I use Nestle chips?

Thanks so much!

one tip I can offer, we used the "starlight peppermints " one year ( because we had a bag).....don't use them !! it's worth getting a few boxes of candy canes and crushing them up. for some reason the other ones don't have the great red and white color and they kind of crush to powder. ( it's a mini peppermint disaster!) :lmao: The candy cane pieces just look so pretty. I just put the candy canes in a ziplock bag and then pound them with the flat end of the meat tenderizer so it's chunky.:goodvibes it's sure yummy stuff !!

here's an easy favorite:

1. melt bag white chips then stir in a bag of heath bits

2. spread on cookie sheet and chill in fridge

3. melt bag choco chips and spread on top and chill again

4. break into pieces and serve

My bark is:

Melt chocolate chips in the microwave (great with dark chocolate) and mix in shelled pistachios and craisins. Spread on a cookie sheet. Melt some white chocolate and drizzle on top and swirl in. Use maybe 1/3 as much white as dark. Freeze for a while then crack into pieces.

I made the white bark with peanuts and pretzels (from Paula Dean) tonight and it is sooo yummy! and easy!

I make a recipe similar to TiffanyK for Peanutbutter balls only simpler:

1 lb confectionary sugar
2 sticks butter
1 18 oz jar peanutbutter

Melt peanutbutter and butter in microwave, blend together in mixer. Add confectionary sugar. Blend until smooth.

Chill for about 1 hour then form into balls - you can make small balls of 1/2 - 3/4 inch or larger balls of 1 - 1 1/4 inches or so. Set Aside on cookie sheet covered in waxed paper - if more than one tray keep additional trays chilled until ready for dipping.

Melt 1 pkg of semi sweet chocolate chips or 12 oz of Dove Dark Chocolate Squares in a double boiler over low heat. Using a toothpick poked into one end of the peanut butter ball halfway into the chocolate. Set back on wax paper to cool and harden. Store in cool dry place. May be frozen.

In extra chocolate pour a small amount of raisins, dried cranberries and chopped nut of your choice. Stir. Keep adding by small amounts until thick mixture forms but you want to leave loose chocolate so that the fruit and nuts blend together. Drop by spoonful on waxed paper. Cool.

I also dip dried fruit. You can use either milk or dark chocolate. Each piece halfway. Apricots, apples, banana chips, and most amazing sweetened dried orange rind - this I dip 3/4 of the way. To make it look extra special after dipping melt a small amount of a different color chocolate (if dipped in dark use white or milk, if dipped in milk use dark or white) drizzle over the other chocolate.

You can also dip potato chips - sounds weird but tastes amazing - but use a thick ridged chip so the weight of the chocolate doesn't break the chip. Ruffles brand work best.

OP here. You guys are great! Thanks so much! Will probably be 40lbs heavier if I make all this!!!

I have another question. My dd was asking about a cookie ball we supposedly made last year that you roll in confectioners sugar. For the life of me I don't know what she's talking about. Any ideas?

Thanks again!!!

These are what I make

Pecan Meltaways

1 c butter, softened
1/2 c confectioners sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 1/4 cups flour
1/4 tsp. salt
3/4 c. chopping peccans
additional confectioners sugar

In a large bowl, cream the butter, confectioners sugar and vanilla until fluffy. Combine flour and salt; gradually add to creamed mixture and stir. Stir in pecan. Refrigerate until chilled.

Roll into 1 inch balls and place on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 for 10-12 min. Roll warm cookies in additional confectioners sugar.

makes about 4 dozen

this isn't candy really but it is SO EASY and SO YUMMO!

heat oven to 325

place square waffle pretzels on a cookie sheet. Set a rolo on top of each one. Bake for 4 minutes. As soon as they come out of the oven, press a pecan half on to the top and let cool/dry.

YUM! They are so good. Great for parties and people say "how ever did you make these?":confused3

caramel, chocolate, salt, nut ....what's not to like? !?! those are the main food groups, right?
