Christmas bunting across Main Street

Anyone at MK today? Are they up or not?

Instagram photos for #festivaloffantasy, #magickingdom etc. that were posted during and immediately after the parade today show no bunting, garland, or arches.

From what I've read from another thread, the MK Halloween decorations are still up today.

Just wanted to add one little tidbit of information. If any of you grew up in a small town in the 40's or 50's -- maybe the earliest 60's, but not any longer -- that's the way Main Streets were decorated.
Once the humongous tractor trailers came along, it wasn't practical or possible. A lot of Main St. U.S.A. in Magic Kingdom is patterned after the way things looked decades ago.
Might look tacky to some, but us older folks recognize it for being part of a Main St. at Christmas.
:thumbsup2

Our Main Street in our town located in California's Central Valley has bunting and garland every Christmas season and Main Street transforms into Candy Cane Lane. When they upgraded the bunting to include lights, candles, and candy canes it was a big thing! ;) Both of our DDs have danced and later marched in the Candy Cane Lane parade... almost as exciting as MOUCParade but without a lighted Castle as a backdrop!

I actually know quite a few places where they still do it, it's not the fact that they do it that's tacky to me, it's the fake candle and fake perfect wreath with garlands that magically wave through the air that I think is ugly! But that's just me :)

I really hope they're there because I have never seen the Christmas deco because we've never been in Nov or Dec before. If not, hopefully something similar because the pictures of them at night are so pretty and do remind me of small town USA.

So, a good reason the bunting isn't up!:)

The decorations are probably going up tonight, then. I've heard the overnight rehearsals for the MVMCP parade and shows begins on Sunday.

I grew up bunting and other Christmas decorations hung in our downtown area & they still do and I was born in 79 lol. I look forward to it every year. Granted I live in a small town farming town in central FL and up until about 1990 we only had maybe 10 or so stop lights through out the whole city.

Some Halloween still in the park. The next couple of nights are rehearsals but also testing some FoF floats with several variations of Christmas "greenery" across Main St. during the night.

Was told when I left that whatever they decide to use will be up for Wednesday.

Also, if anyone is going to MK, be sure and check the times guide for Flag Retreat, last MiSi street party and early event times as they are changing this year due the expected popularity of Castle lighting. Got the revised times this morning but guests need to check so they don't get left out thinking they already know from past experiences.

That's a lot to be going on during crunch time for MVMCP. Will you be able to post photos of Main Street after they finalize the decor?

Maybe. I no longer have a photo share account (just cloud "accounts") so not real sure how to get them on here. Working some of every day this week so could take some though.

Know anyway to get them from phone or iPad to a post? Might be able to upload to my laptop and then post from there but would have to wait till I get off and almost every night is late. Will see.

First party isn't until Friday and first Castle lighting is Wednesday, 6:15 & 7:30 on non-party nights and 6:15 on party night. Last MiSi is moving from 5:40 to 5:00. Some days 3 and some just 2. Lot of schedule changes. Flag Retreat going to 4:45.

Thanks for all the info. For photos I send from iPad > Photobucket app for posting in the correct format. If you want to email the photos to me, I can post them for you. I'll send a PM to you...

I hope they do away with it. I dont like how it blocks the castle as many of you have said. Granted it's not a "and now my trip is ruined" issue, but I would be happy to see it go.

You don't even have to go back to the 40's and 50's, here in Austin they had similar bunting up until the 80s along Congress Ave.

When it came time to change it out, people freaked...now the old bunting usually appears along 6th Street, but Congress is decorated in a way that the view of the Capitol building isn't blocked by the decorations...looks much better IMO, still VERY festive.

I'm sure WDW will do something magical and fun...things sometimes change, can't expect the exact same decorations year after year.
