I love to get Chex mix and "Puppy Chow" they are really nice to take in the car. If you lived in KY you would not have to worry about a freezer just set it outside!
I make puppy chow by melting a bag of chocolate chips with 1 1/2 c peanut butter and 1 stick butter. Pour the mixture over a box of crispex cereal and then coat with powdered sugar. Super yummy!
Can anyone tell me what I need to make pretzel rods..I want to dip them in chocolate and roll in m&ms and peppermint etc.....I wont be making them until the day before taking them to a party....Just need to know what to buy...wasnt sure if i need parafin for chocolate to hold??????????
We make caramel and chocolate pretzel rods every year. I use the melting chocolate that they sell in the farmer's market but you can probably find it at Michael's as well. I melt them in a tall drinking glass that is microwave safe. Just wrap the lower part of the pretzel rod with a strip of caramel wrap (like they make for wrapping apples). Then dip the rod in the melted chocolate and let the extra drip off. Put the wet rod on a piece of parchment paper and let cool to set. No parafin needed to get the chocolate to hold. We usually decorate by drizzling with red and green candy melts but you could roll them in nuts or sprinkles when the chocolate is almost set.
I measure out all the "dry" ingredients for each recipe and put them into a labeled plastic container. Closer to Christmas, I will mix the butter, sugar, eggs and flavor and then dump in the dry stuff. Then bake.
