I just got done watching some YouTube videos of WDW in the 90's and it looked great. I didn't start going to Orlando until I was an adult, so I have no idea what the park was like.
Was it really that great back then?
For those of you that went years ago, do you miss some of the attractions and shows?
How was the character interaction?

The YouTube Christmas video was under The Magic of Christmas at Walt Disney World Part 1. I'm so sorry I don't know how to link it. :worried:

My first trip to WDW was 1972. I still have some unused tickets from the trip.

Had to use the ticket booklets. Oddly enough, this gives a feeling that is a lot like the FP+ system. You really had to plan and choose you favorite rides.

No Space Mountain. Haunted Mansion was the biggest attraction. I guess "If You Had Wings" was kinda cool (it was free), but Buzz Lightyear is better. I kinda miss the SkyRide, but i remember the line being horrible and slow.

Character interaction was a LOT different...they actually roamed the park, stood in line with you. It was kind of cool and it really added to the atmosphere.

Of course the characters were mobbed for pictures and autographs.

No EPCOT either. It was a one-park shot.

I'd say things are better now than then.

I was a kid/teen in the 90s, so I remember WDW in that decade fondly. DHS (it was still MGM Studios back then) was fairly new, and I wanted to go to film school so it was my favorite park with all the "behind the scenes" attractions.

Character interactions were VERY different. Most character encounters were random throughout the parks. You'd turn a corner and Tigger would be there. You were more likely to see certain characters in certain places, but the times were (seemingly) random. They did have the character breakfasts, and Mickey's Toontown Fair opened with regular appearances by Mickey and Minnie.

There was no FP (at least not until 1999). My family would show up at rope drop and have a strategic plan to hit the big rides early (Space Mountain was first, then over to Frontierland). Everyone had to wait in the same line, but I don't remember the lines being ridiculous. We usually didn't bother waiting if the wait was longer than 40-45 minutes because you could come back later in the evening and ride with minimal wait when everyone was busy staking out a fireworks viewing spot.

I was also a fan of Pleasure Island, although I only went once when I was actually old enough to drink. I loved the Adventurers' Club, and the Comedy Club was pretty fun as well.

i miss the epcot lights of winter. i kinda miss mr toad (and the skyway). the food was better (or at least more varied) before the DDP was invented.

but i love AKL and the AK park. for all the complaining (and there are definitely issues to address), it's better now overall.
