Having planned this trip so long ago, I could not wait to finally get going. Seems like I booked this way before my July vacation that has come and gone! So you would figure that on 12/17, I would be organized and ready to leave bright and early on the 18th. Wrong. Tons of last minute stuff to do, DD gets sick, which now means more laundry to do and I am thinking this is no way to start vacation.
Attending our holiday trip is:
Me, the Disney fan of the family
DH, likes Disney but is nowhere as crazy about it as I
DD, almost 8,turning into a Disney nut and lover of all things Lizzie
DS, 5, also turning into a Disney nut and a real Buzz fan
Also making the trip with us is my DSIS, DBIL and DN (neice). Although they are with us, they won't be sticking with us like glue so will be in and out of the reports. They will be staying at OKW, also in a studio.
Our flight was leaving Houston at 9:45 am. We were driving ourselves to the airport and would be leaving the house at 7 am. I wake up, all excited to go. Wait!! It's only 1:15 am, so back to sleep I go. Finally, time to get up. Wait!! Now it's only 3:30 am. Do I go back to sleep, or get up and do whatever. Sleep prevails and finally the alarm goes off at the scheduled time. We are off!!
Our flight leaves Houston 30 minutes late, and arrives into Orlando only 10 minutes late. The airport is so crowded!! I have never seen it that way before. I had booked a rental car through National and using different coupons and codes, got a really great price. I also had booked r/t transportation with TTC. I had them both booked until Friday morning when I decided to go with National. The process at National was quick and easy and we were soon off in our car to hit the Belz outlets.
After a quick stop at the Rockport shoe outlet, we headed over to the Boardwalk. It was 3 pm or so, and our room was not ready. We left our luggage with the bellhop and headed down to the boardwalk for a quick snack and at 4 pm we got our room. We had rm 5055, a studio, overlooking the village green, which had in the center of it, a very pretty Christmas tree. Our room also overlooked part of the boardwalk and we could also see Spaceship Earth. A great view.
We had PS at Cape May Cafe that night for dinner at 6pm. After freshening up, we decided that since we had never stayed at any of the Epcot resorts, we would take the chance to go look at some of the decorations before dinner. The Boardwalk had poinsettias everywhere, and in the lobby was a holiday display made of chocolate. It really was a piece of art. There was also a chair set up in the corner by the fireplace for Santa to sit in. Rumor had it that he would be making an appearance as the week went on. We left our hotel and went to the Yacht and Beach Club to look at their displays. We walked there from the boardwalk and it was a really nice walk. Both had beautiful decorations but I liked the Beach Club's the best. It was a gingerbread display, along with a merry go round made of gingerbread that featured 5 hidden Mickey's. We found all 5. We arrived at Cape May a bit early and were seated immediately. I thought the selection was quite good and we all seemed to enjoy our first experience there.
After dinner, we walked to Epcot. We stayed there for a bit and headed back to the boardwalk. Bought some candy at Seashore Sweets for the kids and headed to the room. We watched Illuminations from our room. We could not see the lower stuff, but we saw the higher fireworks. The additional 10 minutes at the end, was fantastic!! It was holiday colors and was just great!
