Christmas at DL...which hotel?

We are planning a DL trip for Dec. 20-25.

The frugal side of me is saying to stay at one of the nearby hotels/suite. We are a family of five and we can get connecting rooms/suite.

The Disney fanatic side is saying to stay at GCH. I'm sure it must be beautifully decorated at Christmas. Our family will be in 1 room.

What to do? What can I expect during the Christmas holiday as far as decorations, any special holiday programs at the GCH?

I don't know about any holidays programs but when we walked through this past christmas I wasn't impressed. They used to have a huge tree but it burned a few years ago so I'm not sure if that is why they don't have one any more. We always stay at a local hotel. There is so much to see at the parks at the holidays that there isn't much time to spend at the hotel. You can always just visit GCH and even dine there if you want that experience. Have fun whatever you decide.

I was there this past December and stayed at the DLH... Our tower (bonita) had a tree in the lobby seating area... Nothing to spectacular with the holiday decor. We walked thru the GCH and there was a huge tree in the lobby area with some big "santa" style chairs around it... It wasn't overly decorated, but the overall style of the hotel fit perfectly with the holiday theme... I think (IMHO) that the holiday decor in DL/CA is what the focus is on. Beautiful decorations everywhere!!!
