Xmas is my favorite favorite holiday! I love the magic of xmas morning.. I am thinking maybe have the kids do xmas am at home and then go down to disney...or do we go on xmas eve??

Anyone done DL on xmas? What was it like? I am going to book the reservation soon so we have rooms!! My brother is also going down when we go.

THank U!

We went on Christmas Eve one year and it was VERY crowded. In fact they had to close the park. Be prepared for beautiful decorations and holiday magic, but huge crowds to go along with...

I'm sure at some of the restaurants they will have a special dinner. Someone else should know about this!::yes:: Also I'm thinking that the hotel will do something special for the kids on Christmas morning. The Grand is so beautiful at Christmas. They will have the huge Christmas tree, and in the front of it sits Santa at arranged times. Period costumed carolers sing in the lobby too. Oh and the warm inviting hearth, that they tell stories by. I love it!!!

Have fun!

If possible, why don't you go earlier? Disneyland is extremely crowded on Christmas day itself, but the park decorations and parade are up from mid-November to shortly after the new year(though the wreath will be gone from the castle on New Years' Eve).

I was thinking about doing cristmas there next year but ive decied cant do the day of or eve. i will go before becouse of the crouds. But I think it would be fun I have heard of special meals at some of the restrants. I loved the decrations last year in end of nov begging of dec disney knows how to do it up right

I would like to go this year because my grandpa is in the mix of passing and its gonna be weird/hard/upsetting at christmas to be home, specially for my grandma.... but my DH can't go into the states still and all his family lives in his country so i wouldn't dream of leaving him alone for christmas specially since it will be DD 1st christmas... I'm hoping within the next x-mas or too he will finally be able to join... I feel so bad when our DS 4 and DS 2 talk about disneyland cause i see he gets upset he can't enjoy it with him, but he likes it when we go because he knows how much we all love it and wants is to be happy!!! Once he can finally come to the states that will be our first trip DISNEYLAND.... but i've learned not to hold my breath with how immigration works around here :rotfl:

I go to Disneyland on Christmas every year and it's just the same as it is during any other day when it's all decked out for Christmas. Crowds can be unpredictable bc sometimes it's crowded and sometimes it's not that bad, but it's usually crowded. Going to DLR during any other day from Nov to early Jan w/ Christmas decorations would practically be the same as going on the day itself, but I love going on Christmas even if they don't do anything special bc everyday is special at Disneyland! :santa:

So sorry about your Grandpa. I lost my mother just before Christmas of 05 and then my father six weeks later, so the holidays are tough on me too, but to tell you the truth EVERY day is hard when you lose loved ones.

Back to the question, I have never been ON Christmas but I have been several times on or about the 20th of December and I am always shocked that it has not been crowded in the mornings, it picked up later in the day. The decorations and the music though, it is sooo worth it. Hope you get to go, your kids (and you too) will surely love it.

We are going on both Christmas Eve & Day, as well as NYE. Yes we are CRAZZZYYY!!! It is a long time wish to go ON Christmas Day and since my oldest turns 18 this coming January it is kinda the last chance.

I have heard that on Christmas Eve all the characters possible are at / near the exit waving good bye at close.

We got married at the GCH on December 23, 2001, so we've spent our share of anniversaries at the hotel by doing Christmas Eve and Day over the last 6 years. It's really not that bad. I would do Christmas Eve check-in and the 4 days following. That way you are there when the "weekenders" go home, as a lot of people check out on Christmas Day. If you have family there, it's even better! It made the holiday really magical!

The key is not to focus on how many attractions to get done, but instead the atmosphere! I know it sounds odd, but you get lost in the holiday. The crowds just don't ever seem to matter. Just plan on only a handfull of traditional attractions per day and let the holiday extras, like the castle lighting, take over. :santa:

The decorations are so wonderful at the GCH! After dark, make sure to walk DTD and soak in the atmosphere. There's enough chill in the air and the bustle of lights, music, and crowds really fills you with the holiday spirit. After that, make sure to get a hot cocoa for everyone from the bar and go drink it while sitting by the fireplace while listening to the lobby pianist play holiday music.

The hotel itself doesn't do anything special besides Santa in the lobby and the carolers. He is the best Santa, though and we go there specifically to get our girls photos with him anf his beautiful burgundy suit! The other best place for Santa photos is in the Reindeer Roundup area of DL. Mrs. Santa is always out and about there and she is priceless - the nicest lady who spent quality time with my girls last year. Other Santa spots are at the Paradise Pier Hotel and the beach Santa at CA. We've never visited with him at the DL Hotel, but other characters are found in the lobby there. One of the few hidden Meet & Greet locations. Cinderella and Alice can even be seen there on a regular basis.

All in all, the most important advice is make your dining plans early by calling 714-781-DINE. As far as holiday meals go, the Napa Rose has a special set price menu and if that is up your alley, then make reservations early. I think Steakhouse 55 is the same way. Storytellers has their usual buffet with the additional non-buffet menu. There are special desserts and such throughout the parks, like the yule log at the Plaza.

And by the way, the park is actually pretty quiet first thing on Christmas morning. We actually like to take our gifts down to the tree in the lobby and open them there while others are having breakfast. We got that idea from some of the folks when we did Concierge one year (which is worth doing BTW). You are the envy of everyone in the lobby!

Hope this helps! Maybe we'll see you there!
Nancy
