Hi all ~ I'm playing with the idea of driving to Disney commencing on Boxing Day 2006 and returning a couple days before school starts in January 2007. What are your recommendations? Thanks! Sandra

It's Lovely!

But it is very crowded! Not as crowded as DL but that's another story altogether!

It is nice but it is very busy at that time because everyone is off school and visiting the parks.

We went this past Dec. WE left Ontario on Christmas day and worked our way down. I have family in Ohio and North Carolina so we stayed with them and got to Orlando on Dec. 28. We went to MK 2 days (Dec. 29 and Jan. 2) and it was very busy. We also went to Sea World on Dec. 30 and Jan.1. Sea World was not as busy the morning of the 1st. MK was very busy on the 2nd. so I am trying to see when we will go again. Dh and I went in May 1998 and it was not as busy but was hot. I enjoyed the less crowds then so don't know when would be good. I am thinking in March during break but don't know that either. We won't be able to go this year of course, maybe in a couple!

BTW, the weather was BEAUTIFUL! It was so nice to be in the warm sun. And we had lots of sun

Sorry OT - But does anyone know when the school Christmas break will be for Dec 2006/Jan 2007? I called my school board and they said they would not know until the spring for sure.
Anybody have any ideas??

We are planning Florida for Dec 16 - Jan 6 and just don't want the kids to miss more then a week, and hopefully they will miss the week before Christmas and not the week after.

To the OP : We were in DTD Dec 26/05 (morning only) and it was CROWDED like you would not believe. Then we were in the Disney theme parks Jan 1- 7/06. IT was very crowded until Jan 5, then much quieter. We were in Busch Gardens Dec 19, 21 and Dec 26 (afternoon/evening). Busch Gardens was empty Dec 19 and 21 was MADNESS Dec 26.
Thanks
Suzy

Suzy, while the Ministry has the guidelines here each board will choose the actual dates. Last year we did it in the springtime-maybe February/March, but it wasn't approved until late April/May (or at least that's when I had it confirmed) As it sits right now, school will be out on the 22 December (Friday) and back on 8 January. I love having the break after Christmas.

Been to Disney 2 times at Christmas, once as a kid and once for our Honeymoon. It is a great expereince, the extra hours, the special shows, decorations etc.....just be prepared to work around the crowds. I do not think it is a big deal since although the park is busy, Disney has more staff and is running at capacity.

Last time we went on December 26th and didn't venture into the parks until the 27th. Invest in Tourguide Mike or Touring plans or somehting and the crowds are workable.

We were there this past year from December 30th to Jan. 6th. The weather was absolutely perfect. The crowds were heavy especially in Magic Kingdom but we managed to get everything done we wanted to. The decorations were beautiful! I wouldn't hesitate to go back down at this time of year. Just be prepared for the crowds and you'll have a fantastic time!
