Traveling over the Christmas holiday from Chicago to Disney World when can i purchase airfare from discount airlines like southwest spirit frontier etc
You can compare most fares here https://matrix.itasoftware.com/ or here www.kayak.com, but neither site sells tickets. Itamatrix advises you what information you need to book directly with the airline, while kayak allows you to click through to the seller (just make sure it's the airline and not a third party of OTA.).
Southwest keeps its information from such sites, so you absolutely need to purchase from them.
I think we are going to have to check frequently. Here is what we are seeing this morning.
We are currently accepting air reservations through November 2, 2019. On June 20, 2019 we will open our schedule for sale through January 5, 2020. This date is subject to change! Please check back frequently.

Make sure to do those using InPrivate browsing! Some of the LCCs boost their prices if they see you've visited one of those sites when you visit their own site to book.
Also, be sure to check AA independently. The SABRE booking system they use does not interface to many of the booking aggregation sites.
For flying out of Chicago in winter, I'd look at only three airlines: WN out of MDW, AA out of ORD, and UA out of ORD. They all have excess capacity and hub out of Chicago, so any sort of winter interruptions are handled much better.
The only two other airlines with direct flights are Frontier and Spirit, and I can't recommend either of them. With only 5 possible airlines to look out for, it should be simple enough to just check individual airline websites.
I have had them come down for Christmas week on Southwest (still was quite expensive), but I agree that it's prudent to not wait around and just go ahead & book when you see a price you can stomach.
