Thank you for reading this trip report. I will attempt to make my first trip report as entertaining as our first family Christmas trip to the World was.

Me- 31 years old, first trip to WDW in 20 years, a little high strung, hate to fly, afraid of roller coasters, planned like a mad woman for this trip.
Paul- my 32 year old husband, his first trip ever to WDW, hates crowds and lines but is very laid back, left all the planning to me.
Becca- 9 year old daughter, first trip to WDW, is her mother's daughter for the most part, has been waiting her whole life for this trip.
Justin- 6 year old son, first trip to WDW, is my wild man, couldn't wait to ride the fast rides.
Stacy- 25 year old sister, went to WDW last year for her honeymoon, knows how to push my buttons but my kids love her alot.
Brian (or as the kids call him "Uncle Skippy")- 26 year old brother in law, don't know how he puts up with my sister, has been to WDW many times.
Sharon- 50 something, my mom, doesn't put up with line budgers and renegade strollers, loves her grandchildren.
Ron- 50 something, my dad, same as my husband, hates crowds and lines, likes good food and loves his grandchildren.

PRETRIP

We started to plan this trip in March, I spoke to people about where to stay and read my sisters planning books. We decided on Port Orleans Riverside because from all we read it was one of the best moderates and other family members have loved it. We booked our airfair through Delta and I hit these boards and the books trying to figure out where to eat. I also talked to my mom's boss because he goes to WDW almost every year. I actually did not take any of his advice because he is a food snob and I did not want to eat at all 2TS credit restaurants. At 180 days out I booked all my ADRs and only changed one when the Candlelight processional package became available. I even purchased tour guide mike because I knew we were going at a busy time of year and wanted to make the most of our trip. I would have to say though, the hardest part of planning was the waiting (and listening to my husband and dad complain).

12/23 THE DAY OF ARRIVAL

Our flight was not scheduled until about 11am but having the type a personality I have we were at the airport at 8:30am. I got a call from Brian and their flight out of Boston was delayed an hour because they had a layover at JFK and there was a lot of fog there. While we were sitting patiently at the airport a Delta flight came in that was diverted to Syracuse because JFK was not open. I began to panic that my parents and sis and bil would not get to Disney. I called them but the cell phones were off, hopefully they were in the air. We boarded our plane on time and I sat with Becca and Paul and Justin sat across the ailse. I hate take off and white knuckled the whole time, the kids and Paul got a kick out of it. We landed in Cincinnati and had a two hour layover, so we got lunch and proceeded to our gate. Our flight to MCO was delayed, :sad1: I started to worry (did I mention I worry alot) we wouldn't make our 8:00 ADR at Boatrights. Well, maintnance had to check the air pressure seals on one of the doors which turned out to be OK and they boarded us and I white knuckled again but we got to MCO at about 5:30pm. I then paniced because I couldn't find a sign for ground transportation, thank God for my husband, he asked and we were at Magical Express in no time. My parents called they had arrived at the resort and checked in and somehow got them to hold a connecting room for us until we checked in. They then proceeded to call every 5 minutes, where are you, are you almost here, my nerves couldn't take anymore. We arrived, checked in, got a connecting room to my parents and then went to Boatrights to eat, everyone enjoyed it very much and it was so nice to be able to relax for the first time that day. We got back to our rooms at 10 and our luggage arrived 15 minutes later, well everyone's luggage but my moms. She waited about 30 minutes longer and went down to the luggage shack. They kept telling her they delivered it, but she said trust me, I didn't get it. The guy who made the delivery was there and checked his list and said, opps, I delivered it to the wrong room, and they retrieved it for her and all was fine. We went to bed at about 11 or so and had the wake up call for 6 the next morning, so we could start our trip at EPCOT.

Will post 12/24 and 12/25 later.:santa:

Looking forward to how Christmas week was for you!

Yay! A Christmas TR!:santa: Keep up the good work!

Here it goes....

Sunday December 24, Christmas Eve

The wake up call rang at 6am, and Stitch and Mickey were telling us to get up and get moving. It really seemed like we just went to bed but we were excited to get our day started. I let the kids sleep alittle longer and my husband and I got ready. A few minutes later there was a knock at our connecting door, my mom was just making sure we were up. We got the kids up and dressed and had to give Justin medicine because it seems he had gotten a cold. I'm glad I came prepared with medicines and such. my sis and bil showed up and we made our way to the bus stop at 7am. My dad, who thinks he's funny, kept teasing me about being to the bus stop so early and being at the park so early, I told him he'd thank me later. Anyway, we got to EPCOT and had to wait for the ropes to drop. When they did we went right to TestTrack and got FPs. There was absolutely no line, so we decided to ride it while we were there. My son was so funny on the ride, he was pretending to steer the car. We loved this ride, it was so much fun. We headed over to soarin next, there was no line again, we basically walked right onto this ride. I was nervous for this ride:scared: , being lifted 40 feet in the air and not having anything under your feet just wasn't my thing. I even used the special strap on the seat belt for the smaller kids, I wasn't going anywhere. And guess what, I was the only one who wasn't crazy about this ride. Next we did Living With the Land. It was relaxing and pretty cool, to see how they are growing all those veggies and herbs and son enjoyed the fish tanks. We finally decided to get breakfast at that point and ate a quick counter service in the land building. That is when I noticed that the crowd level was starting to rise. When we were done we went to the Nemo ride in the Living Seas building. No line, thank goodness, my husband said he would have been ticked if he waited for that ride. My kids were definitely too old to be entertained by that ride. So after we went to Turtle Talk with Crush, that was awfully funny. Everyone, even Grandpa Ron enjoyed that attraction. It was about 11:00 so we decide to make our way to World Showcase, as soon as we got over we ran right into Donald Duck, Becca's favorite, so we got our pictures taken and then went to ride the Mexican Boat Ride, my son said it wasn't fast enough, after TT, nothing was fast enough, we then went to ride Maelstrom, that was a little more entertaining for the kids. At that time my son was getting very tired, so Paul and I took him for a snack and the rest went to see the China movie. Justin got a chance to rejuvenate and relax and take more cold medicine. We worked our way to Germany and Dad and paul got some German Beer and we decided to ride the boat across the lagoon back to Mexico and then walk to Canada for our LeCellier ADR. When we got back over we went in a few gift shops and Becca found the 2 bears from brotherbear. Grandma Sharon took her over to get her picture taken, Justin was more interested in watching the ducks and the birds. We strolled our way over to Canada and took a lot of pictures in front of the gardens. We were early for our ADR so we took the kids back to the kidcot station, Becca colored a mask, Justin crawled up on me and took a nap. We met a very nice family from SC and talked to them for awhile and then went in for our LeCellier ADR. We loved this meal and were so excited because they actually pronounced our French Canadian last name correctly(we were in Canada, after all). My son slept through most of the meal but woke up in time to eat. We rushed over to the Candlelight CP after lunch and got in the line for the package group. We didn't sit under the covering because we wanted to be in the middle. What a mistake, about half way through, the sky opened up and the rain came pouring down. Thank God for ponchos. Gary Sinese did an excellent job, he seems like such a humble man, I was truly impressed. After we split up from my mom and dad and sis and bro in law. They wanted to stay in World Showcase, the kids not so much. The rain seemed to stop so we threw our ponchos away, mistake #2 for the day. It began to pour harder than ever. We went into MouseGear to waste time. We decided to ride the Ellen Degeneres Energy ride which was kind of neat. My son wanted to ride TT again but it was down, probably because of the rain? We then did the ride in the sphere, BORING and decide to call it night and head back to POR and get ready for our 5am wake up call and Christmas Day at the MK:)

Coming next, Christmas Day, more rain

Christmas Day at Magic Kingdom

Our wake up call rang at 5am because we wanted to get to the MK for morning EMHs at 7am. I was very excited to go to this park, I knew the kids would enjoy it much more than they did EPCOT. Walking down Main Street and seeing the Castle at the end gave me the same feeling it did as a kid and I kind of got weepy with great childhood memories and thinking about what my kids were thinking. We headed straight for Space Mountain, the kids and Uncle Skippy and my husband got fps and then rode it, my sis and dad straggling behind got their FPs and rode and my mom and I got FPS but being the chicken I am we sat and waited. We all of a sudden see the kids and Uncle Skippy and Paul come out of the ride, the kids are smiling ear to ear and they run in line again. When they came off the second time all they did was talk about how great it was and my husband chided me that if my kids can do it, I can too. We then went over to Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin, everyone rode and everyone loved that ride, it was just alot of fun. We decided at that point to head over to Big Thunder Mtn. Railroad, I was going to ride this ride and I am glad I did. We had no wait and when our car pulled in after the ride, they announced anyone who wants to ride again, do not get out of the car. It was great, we got to ride two times in a row. We decided not to do Splash Mtn yet because we were going to be at the park most of the day and did not want to be wet and uncomfortable. Justin, my dad, Paul and Brian went to shoot at the range and Becca decided she wanted to get a lanyard and pins so we shopped. We headed to Haunted Mansion and again we had no wait. It really felt like we had the park to ourselves those first two hours. After that we went back to Cosmic Rays to get breakfast and to call all our family back home and wish them a Merry Christmas. The day had just started and we were exhausted already. While we were in there we realized park attendance really began to swell. When we were done eating we decided to use our FPs for Space Mountain. I got coaxed into riding it. I wouldn't ride it when I was 11 but being 31, I figured it was time to tame my fear. I really could feel my anxiety rise as we were walking up the fast pass line, I almost turned around but I got into the car and rode the ride like a trooper. It wasn't too terrible and I am glad to say I did it. After that ride we decided to go do Pirates. There was a 55 minute wait for this ride, but we decided it was only going to get longer so we waited it out. This was our only really long wait of the week. I do have to say waiting in line with my sister is entertaining though and the 55 minutes went by pretty fast. After that we headed over to see the parade and that is when it started to rain, but we had our ponchos so all was good. At that point we had about 1 hour until our ADR at Liberty Tree Tavern so we decided to ride the steam boat, at least on the second level we would stay dry. Getting off the steamboat my sister had a woman pushing her in the ribs, the first time my sister just shot her a dirty look, the second time my sister yelled at "STOP PUSHING ME". The woman didn't say she was sorry just said well i said excuse me, but there was no where for my sister to go. Because it was raining we went to our ADR a half an hour early just to stay dry. We spoke to a nice older woman who informed us of the tornado warnings until 4pm. Oh well, if I was going to be in the middle of a tornado, at least it would be at the happiest place on earth. We were seated right at our ADR time and had a really nice Christmas Dinner. The strawberry salad dressing there was unbelievable, YUMMY! By the time we were done eating we decided to head back to our resort because it was still pouring and we were all exhausted. We planned on taking a nap and returning in the evening for nighttime EMHs with my parents, Stacy and Brian wanted to head to DTD. Well the phone rang at about 7:30 and woke us all up from a dead sleep, it was Stacy and Brian wanting to know if we were going back to the park. It is a good thing they called, we probably would have slept straight through the night. Well we all got changed and went to MK for the evening, We watched the fireworks on the way in and kind of stood a the main street railroad station to avoid the mad dash of people leaving the park. Justin wanted to do Space Mtn. again so we headed over that way, but the line was long at that point. We got our EMH bracelets even though we weren't convinced we would make it that late. We headed of to Toon town so the kids could ride Barnstormer, at this point in the evening we hardly had anywait so we rode it twice. We then headed into toontown fair and waited for just 20 minutes to meet Minnie, Goofy and Pluto. Justin was so excited all he cared about was meeting Pluto and it just made his whole night. After that my dad, Paul and the kids rode the teacups and we made our way to winnie the pooh, small world (that ride is torture, but was my mom's favorite and since she paid for our dining plan we had to ride it) and waited 20 minutes to ride Dumbo. We then went to Philharmagic, this was everyone's favorite 3D show of the week. The effects were amazing and my son was reaching for everything and giggling through it all. Following this we decided to head back over towards BTM railroad. We did stop at Country Bears, that was a mistake because it really put everyone to sleep. It is also funny how your perceptions change over the years, when I was little this was one of my favorites, now it was kind of like just OK. But I am glad my kids got to see it. When we exited the attraction we decided to have a small snack, it was 1:30 at that point and everyone had it for the night so we started to head back to main st. Becca and Justin wanted to walk through the Castle so we walked inside quick and then grabbed the bus to the resort. I am so proud of how well my kids did that late at night, no whining, no crying and they actually stayed awake longer on the bus than some of the bigger kids.

Coming next... MK day 2

Thank you for a wonderful trip report. Did you follow Mike's advice or "wing it"? Cannot wait for your next installment.

Sharon (yep, like your Mom)

I am enjoying this report and am wondering if you would suggest WDW over Christmas. Was it ok or way too crowded? We went from 8-13th of Dec. in 2005 and want to go back in 07. If we go we couldn't go until 19th or 20th and would stay though 26th or 27th. Thanks and I can't wait to read the rest of your report!!

Didn't really feel that "too crowded" feeling until December 27th, maybe the weather had something to do with the earlier days not seeming too crowded, but I don't know. I will be writing the installments for those "too crowded" days this weekend.

In a lot of aspects we followed his advice, however, I think he recommends not going on EMH days but we did that anyway, which worked for us, we also went Christmas week which he strongly advices against, but again it worked for us. What I followed for a lot of the attractions was the best time of day to ride or view and when to get FPs, we literally doubled back through a lot of the "lands" in MK to hit rides when he said they would be less crowded.

We were at MK on Christmas also:santa: We didn't get there until 7:45am but we stayed through until 1:45am. WE also had lunch reservations (I think about 2:20) at LTT and yes, the salad dressing was really good.

Enjoying your report - glad you had a good trip:)

December 26.....

My parents and me and my husband decided because we were at MK so late on Christmas we were going to sleep in a little on Tuesday and not rush to the park. Well we should have informed my sister of that plan because the phone rang at 7am wondering what time we were going to the park that morning. We kept the connecting door open that night so we all heard the phone ring.:furious: We were all exhausted and grumpy but made plans to call her and Uncle Skippy when we arrived at the MK. We got ready in pretty good time and headed to the busses. When we arrived at MK we called and made plans to meet them at where else?...Space Mountain. We all got FPs and just waited for my sis and bil to show up. The kids were getting impatient and they wanted to ride Buzz Lightyear SpaceRanger spin again. We left my parents to wait and we waited about 20 minutes in line for that ride. We found my parents and sis and bil and decided to go on the tomorrow land transit authority to waste the time that was left on our FPs. My sis thought the kids might like it because it went through Space Mountain. Yeah, they didn't, it wasn't fast enough. So when it was over we headed to Space Mountain, this time every one rode on it. Stacy and Uncle Skippy took the kids as a party of four and my parents and Paul and I rode as a party of four. I have to say the guy who sitting in front of my mom was more entertaining than the ride itself. He kept saying Oh God I'm going to hit my head, oh my stomach, and he was just whining and cracking us up. When we got off the ride I was surprised to see he was an older teenager. My parents, Justin, Paul and I went off to do Stitch's Great Escape and my sis and BIL and Becca went to ride the teacups. We really weren't going to do stitch because we heard it wasn't a great attraction but the line was short and we were there and Justin likes Stitch. Well we did it but I won't ever do it again. This is one of those rides I would have been mad about waiting in line for. We met up with everyone again and headed over to Big Thunder Mtn Railroad. To this point, this had been my favorite ride and I wanted to ride it again, FP or Not! The line time said 30 minutes so we opted to just ride it instead of getting FPs. We only waited 20 minutes so that was a nice bonus. After these rides we decided we would go get lunch at Pecos Bill Cafe for lunch. The only problem was the parade was going on and we had to wait to cross the street. We knew that after the parade it would be a mad dash to get food but we didn't have breakfast and were all very hungry at this point. We only waited a short time for food and got seating easily and I have to say this was our favorite counter service. Maybe I'm only saying that because I was so hungry but it was good food. After lunch we went to the Hall of Presidents. Becca loves Presidential history and politics ( I know, she's only 9) and my dad really thought she would enjoy it. This was also a great opportunity for Justin and Uncle Skippy to take a nap. We are sitting in there listening to the show and all of a sudden I hear my son snoring. It wasn't loud, thank goodness and we just let him sleep. After Hall of Presidents we went to ride the WDW railroad. We rode it to Main Street and then walked to Fantasy Land, the only ride Becca didn't get to ride that she wanted to was Peter Pan. Well the line was 110 minutes so she decided she could live without it. The FP return was also schedule for sometime after 7 in the evening so we just walked away. FantasyLand was very crowded, this was the most crowded it felt all week so we walked toward Toontown. We went to the Hall of Fame tent to see if other characters were there. We got in line to meet Donald, Chip and Dale and a surprise character. We waited 20 and the surprise character was Chicken Little. Becca had a blast, she loves Donald. Justin doesn't like donald for some reason so he wouldn't get his picture taken with him. The kids spent some more of their disney dollars at the Hall of Fame gift store and we sat outside of there for a little while and rested. At that point we decided to call it a day and go to catch the monorail to the Poly for our ADR for Ohanas. We looked in some gift shops and headed out for the evening. Dinner at Ohanas was a lot of fun but the food was just ok and because of some apparent computer glitch we were an ADR party that was overlooked. I have our Ohana's story posted on disney dining reviews.

We decided to not go to any parks that night and just go back to the resort and sleep.

Up next, MGM and CROWDS

Another early morning for us, with Stitch and Mickey waking us up at 6am. My kids decided to spend the night in Aunt Stacy and Uncle Skippy's room, so at least I could kind of take it easy this morning and not have to rush to get everyone ready. Turned on the weather channel and it said it was 49 degrees. I was beginning to think I was in New York. My husband woke up and was not feeling well at all. His throat and head hurt  but he soldiered on. Anyway everyone met up and we all headed to the bus at 7:15. We arrived to the park pretty close to opening and really didn't have to wait in line to get into the park. We headed right for Tower of Terror. Paul, Justin, Becca, Brian and my Dad got right in the line(the rest of us chickens sat on a took everyones cards and got FPs for Rock and Roller Coaster). Now I don't think I mentioned that when my dad was 36 he had a massive heart attack and quadrupile bypass surgery. He hasn't had any heart problems since, but we worry and there were certain rides my mom, sister and I really didn't want him to ride... Mission Space, Tower of Terror and Rock n Roller Coaster. He kept telling us his heart is fine so we reluctantly gave in to Tower of Terror. While we were waiting we met a very nice fellow diser from Ill. We talked to her for quite awhile while her DH and DD were riding RnR and ToT. While waiting we noticed that our family got right back in line to ride ToT again. When they came off the ride Paul, Brian, Becca and yes, my Dad headed over to RnR. Justin being 45 inches was not tall enough to ride RnR and the waterworks started:sad1: I felt so bad for him that I convinced my mom and myself to ride ToT. The themeing of that ride was amazing, the ride however was scary:scared1: I don't know, it must have been psychological because the worst part was when you were dropping and the doors where open and you could see the park. When you were dropping and it was dark, not so bad. Also being shot back up was a horrible feeling. But I did IT! We met back up with everyone else and got breakfast, only at WDW can you eat a softpretzel for breakfast:) We decide to head over to Lights, Motor, Action for the 10:30 show. We were seated soon after getting in line, but once we were seated we had to wait. The show was awesome, my son, husband and Brian really enjoyed it. After that we headed to the great movie ride, that was a little disappointing. Our car was the only one that didn't rock during the earthquake. We then went to get our pictures taken with Mickey. That was the first time all week the kids got to see Mickey, they were excited, so were we. We didn't even have to wait that long either. When we got out of there, oh boy did we feel the crowds. It was like all of a sudden everyone in Florida decided to come to MGM! We got more snacks and headed over to see the Muppets 3D show. Here we waited about 25 minutes but we really didn't mind. The 3D effects in Muppets were not as good as Fantasmic, but we enjoyed it non the less. After Muppets everyone was wiped out so we just sat and relaxed, the kids went to meet Buzz Lightyear and my mom and sis looked in the shops by Mama Melrose. We didn't want to wander too far away from Mama Melrose because we had a 3:30 ADR. We all walked up to Star Tours hoping the stand by line wasn't too long. We were kidding ourselves the stand by line was 115 minutes, OUCH. We decided to get FPs because the return time was 7:30 and that worked out perfect for us. We wandered back down through the gobs and gobs of people toward Mama Melrose. We were still 45 minutes early, so we waited outside and Justin fell asleep. He really can sleep anywhere, must be nice. We decided to check in 15 minutes early but wound up being seated at 3:35. The meal was very good as was the service. It was Becca's favorite meal of the week. We got our Fantasmic passes and headed back that way for the 6:30 show. We had good seats and found plenty of ways to entertain ourselves while waiting. We took lots of silly pictures. I am sure everyone was saying look at that crazy family, but that's OK, we weren't bothering anyone and we had fun. Someone started the wave so that wasted another 10 minutes or so. Fantasmic finally started, what a cool show. We really enjoyed it, I am so glad we did it. After Fantasmic, My dad, Brian, Becca and Paul decided to use the FPs they got earlier in the day for RnR. We waited a little while for them because there was even a wait for the FP line. While we were waiting we thought maybe they went on twice because we did have 8 FPs. When they came back to the benchs they said that the CMs were turning people away from the RnR FP line because they were trying to use FPs from other lines. Anyway they had 4 FPs left so my dad found a party of 4 adults and asked if they wanted to ride RnR, they said yes but didn't want to wait in a 120 minute stand by line. My dad gave them the FPs and told them to use them and enjoy. It was nice he got to spread alittle pixiedust: and I know it made him feel good too. We then headed over to Star Tours to use our FPs. That was a funny ride, we liked it and were glad we got FPs earlier in the day. Our original plan was to head over to Indiana Jones for the 9:00 show but everyone was COLD AND TIRED. We just decided to head back to the resort and call it a night...
Up next, Animal Kingdom
