Saturday, June 18th
Today was Magic Kingdom day. As usual, we have yucky cereal in our rooms. Yes, it WAS getting a little old, but, at least, my digestive system was thanking me for not going all out with the food!
We arrived at MK right before park opening and saw the little ceremony at the front gate. We got in and headed for Space Mountain to get a fast pass. Unfortunately, it was down and would end up being down all throughout the day. We ran over to Splash Mountain and only had a 5 minute wait. We were able to ride twice. I've never hardly gotten wet on Splash Mountain before, but this time I got really wet for some reason. My whole face and shirt were soaked. Weird. So we got off that and headed back over to check on Space Mountain. We were able to walk on most rides with a 15 minute wait. It was really much better than I expected. The morning hours are really the best time to get in all the rides you want to do. After about noon, it starts to get pretty bad. In very quick order we did Buzz Lightyear, Stitch, TTA, Peter Pan, It's A Small World, Haunted Mansion, and Mickey's Philharmagic. We REALLY enjoyed the Philharmagic show--very nice.
For lunch, I had planned on going to Columbia Harbor House, but we were over near Space Mountain, so we went to Cosmic Ray's. I've never been there and I was very pleased with it. I ordered a Turkey Wrap which was huge. DH got a grilled chicken sandwich. I took one bite from my Turkey Wrap and realized that I just didn't like it. I thought it would be a plain wrap; however, it was a seasoned one and I just don't like the "off" flavor it had. DH didn't mind switching and he really liked the wrap and I really liked the chicken sandwich. The kids got hot dogs. They messed up my order and started to give me hamburgers. When they finally switched it back to hot dogs, they realized they had overcharged me 40 cents and wanted to know if I wanted my order recalculated. I told them no way and then they gave us some free desserts, which was nice but unnecessary.
DH and the girls were getting a little tired from the heat and they left to go back to the room. The rest of us stayed and rode Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. The wait time for Splash Mountain was 100 minutes so we gave up on that and took the train back to the Magic Kingdom entrance and headed back to clean up for dinner.
Our PS was at Artist Point at 5:40. We were seated right away. I hadn't been to AP in a few years and, after having been to Citrico's, I realized that AP is not nearly as cozy as Citrico's. It is a lovely restaurant, but it is a bit on the "cold" side. Very high, soaring ceilings, tiled floors, and wooden chairs. All the sounds in the room echo very easily and it gives the restaurant a more stark feeling. Nothing wrong with it--just a totally different atmosphere and it was then that I realized that Citrico's was a bit more comfortable.
All of the adults decided to go with the 4-course meal at $47 per person
. I think this is a good deal, even though it's pricey. It gives you a choice of soups, salads, entrees, and dessert. We all chose the Mushroom Soup, three of us got the Frisee Salad with Peaches and Raspberry Viniagrette, one of us got the Living Lettuce Salad with Lemon Viniagarette. For entrees, three of us got the Beef Tenderloin and my mom got the sauteed scallops. We then all got the Berry Cobbler for dessert. The other choice for dessert was "Coffee Two Ways" which was a Vanilla Latte Creme Brulee and maybe a Mochachino Bread Pudding (can't quite remember).
Now, the mushroom soup. THIS WAS THE BEST SOUP I EVER TASTED!!! We all loved it. I gave DS a taste and he took my bowl from me and ate the rest. He is begging me to make this at home. Do not miss this soup if you go to AP. The Frisee salad was not good to me. DH and my dad ate it but they didn't care for the dressing AT ALL. It was so tangy to me that I just didn't want more than a few bites. The waitress saw that I wasn't eating it and offered me the other salad, but I declined. All of the entrees were cooked to perfection and my mother's scallops were the best she had ever tasted. I believe she liked the scallops better than the wonderful veal shank at Citrico's. The kids got various kids meals that were nothing noteworthy. My DS did order the kid's hamburger. The waitress informed me that it was very small and would he prefer and adult burger (he did). It was $10.00 versus the $5.00 but it was a good thing we got it because he was hungry! The berry cobbler was wonderful as usual. At the end, we had press pot coffee again. For some reason, the AP coffee was REALLY good--better than what was served at Citrico's.
As I said in my Citrico's review, these two restaurants were very closely tied, but I guess I have to give it up to Citrico's for first place. Even though *most* of the food at AP was slightly better (very marginal), the atmosphere, price, and desserts beat AP. I'm very loyal to AP so it's hard for me to even type that.
After dinner we went back to the room to get ready for our last full day in the parks: Epcot, Blizzard Beach, and Kona Cafe.
