We're going to my neice's christening this weekend. Anyone have a good idea for a present? I was thinking of a nice cross to hang in her room or a book (On the Day You were Born). My husband wants to do an engraved baby cup. Or there is a woman in town who does personalized birth record pictures.

It's been so long since we did this and I really can't remember any of the presents we received.

Unless you're very close to your niece, get her a savings bond. Her parents (and she) will appreciate it when she's ready for college.

A savings bond is always a great gift. Other ideas that we appreciated receiving when DS was baptized was a Bible, they make baby Bible's by Precious Moments that is really nice with a place for an inscription or a plaque with cross that is engraved with DS's name and baptism date.

I've given 2 of my nieces gold crosses on chains...small ones. My husband's aunt gave Daniel an awesome keepsake box with his name and birthdate engraved on it. From Bombay company. That was one of our favorite gifts he received for his baptism.
another favorite was a basket filled with books that my sister gave him, including a lift-the-flap children's bible. He loves looking thru it! Can't go wrong with a saving's bond.

As a parent I really appreciate receiving $ for DD. But I'm also very sentimental and like keepsakes. I'm not sure how much you're planning on spending but you could probably do both. How about a nice bank with her name and birth date on it that you could put money in?

Well, we haven't officially met yet... :-) so I can't say if we're close.

I was thinking of jewelry. I still have my gold baby bracelet.

Thanks for your ideas!

When one of my kids was Christened, my brother gave her 4 shares of Disney stock. He framed it, and we have it hanging in her room. The certificate is adorable, with Disney characters on it!

We always get a savings bond for christenings, they only cost half of the face value (ie: for a $100 bond it costs you only $50.) it is a nice gift because it usually is just put away and when the child is older they are "re-gifted" with it as it matures.
