Christening Gift? I'm the godmother!

I gave both of my godsons tooth fairy containers (silver ones). They had bibles/rosaries, and grandparent were giving crosses. I wanted to give them something they would use for years, could pass down, they did not already have, and that no one else would give also.
My sister gave my girls silver crosses, and my son a tooth fairy container(I stole her idea) :goodvibes

Thanks all for the advice. I'm going to go with a picture frame and a check. I've never heard of buying the outfit, that is interesting. I have no idea what he'll be wearing, we weren't able to attend his sister's christening so I'm not sure if his mom's family has a family gown, I know ours does not, at least as far as I know.

In our family the Godmother buys the christening dress and a cross.

No purchasing of christening gown in our family! We were all christened in the same gown (that my mom and her siblings wore). When my aunt had her son christened at 6 months he ripped the gown a long time later my aunt, mom and nana all chipped in to have another one made to look like the original. My nieces and nephew and all my cousins children that wanted to christen their children all used the new gown. My aunt keeps it at her house and doesn't even want anyone to wash it after they use it for their child (she does the cleaning).

I think I gave my nephew a silver cross for his christening. I should remember it was only just over 3 years ago.

Not a traditional gift (disclaimer: I'm not Catholic but my husband is and he is the Godparent not me. Of course though, he left the gift buying up to me.) We opened a small savings account with $100 and called it the Godchilld account. Every month we have $15 automatically transferred into that account. It's a small amount of money that we don't miss and of course it's earning no interest but right now she's in kindergarten and the account has about $1500 in it. We put the account paperwork inside a small religious themed box along with a note where we promised to use the money to buy her a confirmation gown and cater a meal for her confirmation. We will continue to add money through college and give it to her as a graduation present.

My boys were all Christened in their father's outfit ... though they were all nearly too large to fit! The nicest gift we received for them was a silver cup with their initials on it.

So, this was bumped by spam (which I reported), but just to add (obviously not for the OP, but others).

I got my nephew/godson a silver piggy bank. My aunt/godmother had gotten me the same thing and I still have mine (mine was an elephant and the one I got for my nephew was a frog).

Something like this -

I have 3 godchildren. I always bought their outfit & then I bought a gift from www.personalizedcreations.com I bought a personalized cross for my godson and personalized dolls for my goddaughters. The site has a lot of really cute gifts specifically for a Christening if you want to check it out. Good luck!

Honestly, I gave Disney stock to my god-daughter!
Oops, was I supposed to give a bible??

Me too. I gave Disney stock to both of my godchildren for their baptisms. I also bought the gown for one. The other had a gown so I got her a gold cross in addition to the stock.
