Hi All, I was excited about my wedding before, but the flurry of new and revisited PJ's, as well all of the newlywed TR's, over the past week has tripled my excitement!! You've all been such great help and your journals are all so creative and inspirational.

CONGRATULATIONS to everyone!!

So here is mine...

Me: Nikki (29)
DF: Chris (29)

42 guests (including 11 children)

Wedding date: 5/5/08
Ceremony @ Sea Breeze Pointe 5 PM
Dinner Reception @ The Attic 6 PM
Illuminations DP @ The UK Terrace 8:30 PM

Photographer: Misty Miotto

Everything else still has to be decided. (Hair, Makeup, Officiant, etc.)

This is the extremely abridged version of our meeting and the proposal ( I apologize for the length in advance)...

Love at second sight...

Chris and I met a little over a year ago. We both agree, it was love at second sight! We first met on my mother's birthday September 25, 2006 while on a dinner cruise around Manhattan thrown by the firm I worked for. Chris had just been hired but was scheduled to start a week later, but they invited him anyway. It was very dark, I was sick (but went anyway, it was the firm's 100th anniversary) and I had invited a date (only because I didn't want to be the only one there without a date) It turned out that Chris was the only one without a date. So even though we met and shook hands, I barely even said two words to Chris the whole night.

When Chris started he was given the seat right next to me. The office has a very open layout (no cubicles or offices- just drafting tables and computers.) We shook hands for the second time but our eyes locked for the first time and I melted. He was my Prince Charming!! He had the most amazing blue eyes and an adorable smile and he was such a gentleman. Within a minute we were talking about everything from The Simpsons, to Pink Floyd and Etta James to the meaning of life.

I later found out that he felt the same thing, when we met the second time. But at that point, neither of us were flirting, because he thought I was in a relationship (with my date on the boat- which is ridiculous because that guy hated Disney World!!) and I thought he was MARRIED!! He wasn't wearing a wedding ring, but all of my coworkers had been talking about how sad it was that he and his wife were separating and possibly getting a divorce. So early on, I asked him why he didn't wear his wedding ring. And ten minutes after he responded by telling me that he was not married and had never been married, my friends (now MOH and BM) and I set up the first Happy Hour our firm had had in a year!! I also promptly informed him that not only was I single, but I really wanted to get to know him better. And the flirting began!! Needless to say, that was the best Happy (four) Hours ever!! We've been inseparable ever since. :cloud9:

The biggest klutz in the world...
A week before our one year anniversary, Oct. 20, we went hiking in a nature reserve near my new job. It was sooooo beautiful that we decided that we were going to go hiking there at least once a month. There was a waterfall tucked away somewhere off the trails that we wanted to find. During that first trip, I kept thinking that it was absolutely the most perfect place for a proposal and I kept wishing that he would ask me. We had lived together practically since the first week we met, talked about marriage 6 months into our relationship and already knew we were going to marry at Disney, and we had named our three future children 9 months into our relationship (one will have a Disney princess' name), so I was VERY ready to say "YES" to a proposal and he knew that a ring was not required. So, of course, I was disappointed when we left the reserve without finding the waterfall and without a proposal.

A week later, on our anniversary, Chris suggested we go back to the reserve and find the waterfall. I said yes, with my fingers crossed again. We climbed and hiked and finally found the waterfall. We stood there for a while and he said nothing. I looked away from him, trying to not look disappointed that the waterfall didn't come with a proposal. And when I looked back, he was on one knee holding a ring box. :dance3: :cheer2: :dance3: (I wish there was a smiley parade thingy) So of course, I said "Yes" . I then celebrated by partially falling into the river, because I'm the biggest klutz in the world. :rolleyes1

This is the ring...

I LOVE your ring! It's so different! Can't wait to hear all the details!!

So far this whole wedding planning process has been more stressful than I had expected. I found this board a few weeks ago because I was looking for support and something to help me get my mind off of everything. I had posted in a different thread. But basically since the second day of our engagement my father and my FMIL are apparently so excited about the wedding that they are both driving me nuts.

My dad:
He booked his flight and hotel suites for 12 people before I had even spoken to anyone at Disney!! Of course he had to change his plans because the original date we wanted wasn't available.
He also invited four people I never thought of inviting (they are still coming), but because they are coming, I had to eliminate 2 of my aunts and their husbands.
He also told my 18 year old cousin that she has to be there because she is going to be a bridesmaid. I had to apologize to her and explain that she was not. :sad1:

FMIL:
Less than 24 hours after we got engaged, she announced that although she was fine with a Disney wedding (because she LOVES Disney) we HAVE to have a roman catholic wedding at some point. She said there was no room for discussion, because DF is her only son and it was mandatory. (I am not catholic and DF is no longer a practicing catholic for over a decade and beside s, we've been living together in sin for a while now.) She has now said that it's ok. So, we don't have to do it.

Next, I found out that she bought her dress a week before DF even proposed. She said she knew the proposal was coming and she was so happy that she had an outer body experience and bought a $300 + dress on a whim. It's Royal Blue. I wanted my BMs to each wear a different dress, of their choosing , in midnight blue. I recently decided on two other possible colors, because her color is so close that she may look like the 6th BM in our pictures.

FMIL and FFIL are paying for a reception up here for 200 people, they want me to plan it, which is fine, except for the fact that they won't tell me how much they are willing to spend. So I'm in this bizarre limbo, where I keep getting estimates from venues, giving the total to the FILs and then hearing "that price is too high", "that price is too low". They finally told me last weekend to match my parent's Disney budget, which is impossible since one event has 42 guests and the other has 200." Also, their reception is much more like a wedding reception than our Disney reception will be.

So, yeah, I'm trying my best to have fun.

Anyway, enough complaints, here are a few pics...

This is wear I felt into the river/creek after the proposal, shortly after taking this picture...

Wow! Your ring is so beautiful and so unique

I apologize for all of the typos! I was rushing to leave the house and I was very late to work. I will post more pics after work.

Thank you all for the compliments on my ring. I think my DF did a great job. Before the proposal, I told him that I didn't want a ring and that I just wanted to be with him. But he kept asking what I would want if he did get me one one day. I told him that I would want an aquamarine with a vintage feel. He picked it out by himself. I was so proud!! :goodvibes

Sounds about right  (coming from the one with the 'challenging' FMIL)

Congrats on getting engaged just how you wanted! I'm so glad you found us here! Everyone is so helpful and supportive. Can't wait to read more!

I love your ring too! Aquamarine is my birth stone!!

I know exactly what you're going thru with your future in laws. Mine are doing the same kinda thing with our wedding. At first they kept begging to pay for things, but when we sat down and talked about it they wouldnt commit to paying for anything. Now there's 50 people coming from their side of the family and 20 from mine, but my parents are paying for everything!!

Just to warn you... it only gets more stressful as the day gets closer :headache:

congratulations and I LOVE your ring...it is absolutely beautiful!!

:rotfl: When I was trying to type my last messege, it took me several tries because my cat was rubbing her face all over my hand and trying to climb onto the keyboard. I had just washed the sink, so I guess she really like the smell of the bleach.

throw me into the fmil from heck club. a 200 person wedding in nj is going to be so much more than your disney wedding...glad they're no longer making you have a catholic wedding...love you dress!

Thank you all again for the compliments!! I feel like a princess!! princess:

caryndisneydiva, mistressofallevil & kristen14 - I am really relieved that she said we don't have to do the catholic wedding. However, I had a dream that scared me a lot last week. In it DF and I showed up at our gynormous NJ reception and we were greeted by a priest. I ran away crying and she ran after me saying that we had to do it for her or she would die... So, I'm definitely nervous that we may have to revisit the RC ceremony or blessing request at some point in the future, especially since they want the party up here to be "just like a wedding". My FMIL has requested that I wear my wedding dress or get a second one if the party is before our Disney wedding. And they want the wording on the invitations up here to be as close to a "real wedding invitation as possible".

Oh and DF just told me that she noticed the tattoo on my wrist (which I do plan on covering). But she hasn't mentioned it to me yet. They are coming over this weekend, so she may bring it up then. Yippee!! Honestly, she is a really sweet person. But I'm marrying her only child, her only son. So I think she's having trouble adjusting. I'm really hoping that thinks won't get worse, but after reading some of your PJs, I'm expecting the worst.

When is your bday kristen14? Mine is March 18.

Anyway, I am currently waiting for my contract to be revised to include the UK DP and waiting for the planning kit. So the pics of the flowers and cake are my favorites of what I will show the Disney planners. YAY!! It's time for lots and lots of pictures!!

This is me and DF... (I asked for an aquamarine because it's my birthstone and it matches his eyes)

Maybe his tux, with an ivory vest and tie (the four groomsmen will wear something similar, but their vests and ties will match the BM dress color...
cat6xml.jpg

Our colors.... dark brown (espresso, chocolate), blue (various shades) and ivory.

Flowers will be very pale pinks and ivory...
These are the inspirations for my bouquet... I want peonies (either all pale pink or a mixture of pale pink and ivory), I want the BM's to each have a different bouquet bloom all in pale pink - one bouquet of ranunculus', one of roses, one of tulips, one of calla lilies and one of lisianthus'. I love all of them so I didn't want to have to choose.

The bridesmaids... four (two friends and two cousins) and a junior BM (my 11 yr old niece)and the flowergirl is my 6 year old niece... I wanted the four BMs to pick their own dresses in midnight blue and I gave them 10 choices... but they ended up all picking the same dress, which was my favorite, so I guess it worked out well. Now the color is a problem. I wanted midnight blue, but my FMIL might be too close in royal blue, so I'm considering chocolate and baby blue.

Which color do you all prefer? I'm very open to your suggestions. I let my BM's vote on the color, but it ended in a tie.

Baby Blue...

And the inspiration for the cake, but as I said, I haven't received the planning kit, so this will probably change...

And the favor boxes (with something made of chocolate) for the adults...

i love all your ideas. well i am biasbut i love the chocolate or the dark blue. i think that flowrers pop better on the dark dresses. but it is a personal choice

cant wait to see more

I love the idea of chocolate and baby blue. I think that would be a great color combo. Can't wait to read more!

Wow, everything looks great!! Your cake inspiration is so unique! I've never seen anything like it!! You dont have to pick a cake from the planning kit... Disney can duplicate anything you want.

Be sure to walk on eggshells around the future inlaws... they sound as sneaky as mine! They love to twist and turn my words around... I haven't posted half the things that woman has said/done to me because I'm trying to be as proper and ladylike as possible ;)

Yours are thinking of throwing you a reception BEFORE your Disney wedding??? Sounds kinda suspicious to me! Remember that its YOUR day, regardless of who's paying and you shouldnt be pressured into anything that you arent comfortable with!! If you're not INSIDE a Catholic Church your marriage won't be recognized by the church anyways... even if a Priest shows up at the party.

I'm a C&E Catholic at the moment, but my parents are super super religious. Out of respect for them and the way they raised me, I'm having a Priest witness our ceremony and also bless our marriage the day after. I figure when I get older I may get tired of my rebellious anti-Catholic views and I may regret not having a Catholic wedding.

Btw.. My birthday is March 5 (14 was my number in every sport I played from middle school thru college).

I looove the cards you made to ask your attendants if they would be attendants!! As a scrapbooker, I recognize those heart stickers!! ;)
